The biggest reason i want this to work is Joaquin Phoenix. I have bo ill will towards him and i hope for nothing but the best for the man.

It seems weird, as this almost feels like it could be the finale to the TV show Gotham, but with a massive budget in comparison to the show.

@Knightrider -
I disagree with that. The big difference between Gotham and Joker is that Gotham is just a dark, campy network TV prequel in the same vain as Smallville, where the final episode is the hero putting on the costume and it's intentionally silly popcorn entertainment above all else.

Joker is being described as more of a grounded 1980s crime film in the style of Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, and The King of Comedy, where it attempts to be a gritty character study with actual themes. They even got Martin Scorsese to produce it, and they are going after big actors like Joaquin Phoenix and Robert DeNiro.

Joker clearly has bigger, more arthouse aspirations than Gotham does (which was always meant to be an over-the-top comic booky TV representation of the Batman mythos). The only real similarity is that it reimagines the years before Batman.

In a strange way I also kinda wish this was set in the TDK universe

@Knightrider - while that would be enjoyabale, I like the theory that in TDK, the joker is a former soldier resulting from PTSD, thus explaining his knowledge of firearms and such. But in the end, it’s all fan theories haha
