More new stills have been released from Todd Phillips' Joker: Folie À Deux showcasing Arthur Fleck and Lady Gaga's "Lee" in court, a possible breakout from Arkham Asylum, and more. Check them out...

A handful of new Joker: Folie À Deux stills from the latest Empire Magazine have found their way online and they show the Clown Prince of Crime (Arthur Fleck) and Harley Quinn (Lee) in what looks like a pivotal courtroom scene.

We'd imagine Arthur Fleck is answering for gunning down Murray Franklin and inciting the riots which resulted in the deaths of Thomas and Martha Wayne.

There's also a shot of Arthur and Lee during what may be an attempted breakout from Arkham Asylum along with Joker dancing his way through the institution as Brendan Gleeson's unnamed guard watches on.

"Joaquin and I talked about another one the whole time while we were making the first movie, just because we love the character," director Todd Phillips recently said. "We were obsessed with Arthur. We would almost joke about it: 'Oh, we should take Arthur and we should do this.'"

Joaquin Phoenix added, "I had a curiosity about going further with the character. It felt like you could put him into almost any situation, and I would be interested to see how he would navigate it. I mocked up all of these posters of films that have already been made, like Rosemary’s Baby and Godfather, and I put Joker in them and I gave them to Todd."

"There was a running joke of, 'What about Joker in space?'" he continued. "But yeah, I was fascinated by where he would end up."

Check out this new look at Joker: Folie À Deux in the X posts below.

Joker: Folie À Deux finds Arthur Fleck institutionalized at Arkham awaiting trial for his crimes as Joker. While struggling with his dual identity, Arthur not only stumbles upon true love, but also finds the music that's always been inside him.

The sequel stars Joaquin Phoenix once again in his Oscar-winning dual role as Arthur Fleck/Joker, opposite Oscar-winner Lady Gaga (A Star Is Born). The movie also features Oscar nominees Brendan Gleeson (The Banshees of Inisherin) and Catherine Keener (Get Out), alongside Zazie Beetz, reprising her role from Joker.

Phillips, who was nominated for Oscars for directing, writing and producing Joker, directed Joker: Folie À Deux from a screenplay by fellow Oscar nominee Scott Silver & Phillips, based on characters from DC. This follow-up was produced by Phillips, Oscar nominee Emma Tillinger Koskoff and Joseph Garner. Lady Gaga served as music consultant.

Joker: Folie À Deux arrives in theaters on October 4.

@ItsNotForMeWahh - could you imagine the Nolanverse where Bale is Two/Face, and Eckhart is Bruce? I think it would've been an interesting outcome.

Whilst i think the movie will about equal to the first ( i liked it, didn't love it) i doubt it's going to do similar numbers at the box office. I'm thinking around 4 to 500mill WW. Now that people know this Joker is completely different to what they were sold.

@Conquistador - It also doesn't seem like a film where I feel the need to watch it in theaters. I can wait

@ItsNotForMeWahh - Exactly. The first was quite successful because we were sold an origin story of THE Joker, not a Joker. imo anyway. It was well acted, but i was more bored that in awe. It only picked up in the last 15 or so minutes.

It also looks like Harley's story is going in another direction so i think fanboys at least are likely to skip. I'll wait for it come out on a streamer. Even if the reviews are stellar again, i'm not certain i'm interested. Joaqin is good though, but he sucked ass in Napoleon.

@Conquistador - you shouldn't comment about box office if you really believe it's somehow gonna make only 400-500 mln worldwide, this is downright moronic prediction which has nothing to do with reality. The first one is a hugely popular film regardless of expectations, there's zero chance it'll make less than half of what the first one made, even if it's terrible, it won't make less than 800 mln.

@TCronson - 400 to 500 mill isn't flop money though. Happy to place a bet, you set the terms.

How has this nothing to do with reality?!

The first one had a buzz, this one isn't really setting much on fire in the same way the first did, especially as the first was seen very much as a 1 off that didn't need a sequel. You're entitled to your opinion though, I'll save the juvenile insults for you when the numbers come in.

@Conquistador - This was totally supposed to be a one-off. Todd and Joaquin pretending that they were genuinely thinking of sequels beyond the jokes of Joker in Space or Joker in Rosemary's Baby, etc. lol sure guys.

Joaquin famously didn't want to do any movies where there was a possibility of sequels. That's actually the much documented reason he turned down Doctor Strange. It was against what he stood for as an actor. But that was before there was so much money on the table.

@Conquistador - 400-500 is a flop for a $200 mln sequel to 1.074 bln grosser. It's simply not gonna happen, expecting this to gross less than Venom 2 is delusional. Buzz is there, Lady Gaga will bring extra crowd. When the numbers come in, you won't be able to use juvenile insults because I'm right.

@TCronson - Ok, movie comes out Oct 4th. I shall be saving this comment and coming back to you maybe a couple weeks to a month after that. You say $800 mill plus?

I say considerably less.

Don't forget Dune 2 was a sequel many people wanted more than a Joker 2, was also pg13 (not rated R like joker) and barely just got 700mill.

It's Joker 2 is not at all comparable to D&W's hype.

Set the terms if you're so confident.

TCronson - 8/1/2024, 2:09 PM
@Conquistador - Set 800+ mil, I'm more than confident. First Joker is much more popular than Dune, Part 2 was never going to gross a billion, the source material is niche and Villeneuve is not Nolan, 700 is good enough for it.
Conquistador
Conquistador - 8/1/2024, 2:28 PM
@TCronson - I mean the terms of the bet...if loose what will you willing to do? Vice versa..

We're quite limited on here but we can get creative 😅.

I honestly think it won't get close to 600 million.

People were more excited about The Batman compared to Joker too and that didn't get to 800mill.

Also pg13, so not as limited as an R rated feature.

Can't really say the pandemic affected it either as No Way Home came out at the peak and that made 2 billion.

Villeneuve has more than proven himself as a capable director to be mentioned in the same conversation as Nolan. Especially as he didn't get become infamous from directing a comic book movie.

TCronson - 8/1/2024, 2:59 PM
@Conquistador - I dunno, since it's internet comment section we can agree on some humiliating avatar? Or idk. First Joker did what it did because it attracted non-comic book crowd while The Batman didn't go beyond its target audience. Villeneuve is beloved, but he's not nearly as commercially successful as Nolan. If Nolan directed Blade Runner 2049, it would've recouped its budget.
Conquistador
Conquistador - 8/1/2024, 3:14 PM
@TCronson - Ok cool, did this with another user in terms of Avatar 2's box office and he also lost. Kept his word though.

If you loose you gotta change your username and avatar. Username will be I was wrong or something like that.. we can specify nearer the time. Same with the avatar. Lol.

You may be right about Blade Runner, but had Nolan directed that before getting to TDK he wouldn't have done so great. Villeneuve track record (critically at least) is doing just as great if not better than Nolan in term of film to film.

Dune didn't just have Villeneuve though it had a star studded cast.

First joker did that well because it was sold as an origin story, so the comic book crowd showed up as well as general movie goers because of the critical draw. Now though the general consensus is that the movie was 'just ok'

But I don't see the comic book crowd showing up a second time and the general movie goer this time around will be Gaga fans, I just don't see lightening striking twice, but I'm happy to say I'm wrong when I'm proven so.
TCronson
TCronson - 8/1/2024, 3:27 PM
@Conquistador - deal.

Nolan's audiences scores are better than Villeneuve's, only Dune: Part 2 came close to Nolan's huge audience scores.

And where did you take that general consensus? Based on what? The movie has 8.4 imdb score after 1.5 mln votes, #83 in top 250, 11 Oscar nominations, Joaquin's first Oscar, Venice win, it's much much better reception than just ok, most movies could only dream about it, it's divisive only among american critics and filmtwitter crowd, but not among general audience. Movies which are considered only ok don't do multipliers it did at box office, especially overseas where it had Avatar-like staying power in some countries.

They'll show up, they complained about the first one as well before release, but were first in line to see it, the same thing is gonna happen here. People who hated the first one will show up as well because it's one of those rare movies where haters are obsessed with it more than fans, they'll want to be a part of discourse again.

Cautiously Optimistic for this. The Gaga fans will no doubt give it a boost, regardless of the material. Just like the general audience will show up for Robert Downey Jr, not knowing Dr Doom from Iron Man or a cheese shredder.

I thought the first Joker was really good, but I just can't get it up for this one. I don't know if it is the rehashing of similar visuals, the musical aspect, or the fact that there seems to be absolutely nothing at stake, but I wouldn't mind missing this in the theaters and just watching it later when I can stream it.

I am torn. I didn't enjoy the first one all that much, but I'll go see this next one because I'm just stupid that way.

Well, my tequila, beef jerky, peanut butter cookies, & popcorn surprise will keep me entertained while I'm there amongst the weirdos.

The first was a ripoff of The King of Comedy and Taxi Driver. Well acted but a bore.

But hey! The Incels finally had a movie to represent them! Glad they felt seen. Doubt they’ll love this one since there’s a woman in it. Yet another woman who won’t [frick] ‘em. lol.

@Monkeyballs2 - ever get tired of parroting the same copypasted bullshit over and over again for years? I swear I've seen this comment word to word 100000 times since 2019, you filmtwitter goblins are unbelievably dumb, you obessed with this movie much more than fans and incels which is saying something.
Monkeyballs2
Monkeyballs2 - 8/1/2024, 3:52 PM
@TCronson - Ouch. Hit a little to close to home, did I? LMFAO!

1 - The movie is boring and not even half as good as the films it is pretending that it’s not ripping off.

2 - I’m sorry that you can’t get laid. Have you tried reconstructive surgery on your jaw line? Maybe one of your buddies on 4Chan or whatever can hook you up with their surgeon.

3 - filmtwitter goblin. Don’t know what that is but it’s funny and I’m gonna use it. Don’t worry. I’ll give you credit.

TCronson - 8/1/2024, 4:11 PM
@Monkeyballs2 - I don't follow 4Chan, maybe you and your buddies do, if the first thing you came up with after my comment is some random insecure talking about getting laid and surgeries. Don't thank me, using "filmtwitter goblin" would probably be the most original part of your comments since it's not nearly as copypasted and overused to death as your post. Maybe one day you'll learn to have your own thoughts instead of hive mind mentality and parroting stolen comments expired years ago.

Monkeyballs2 - 8/1/2024, 5:41 PM
@TCronson - LMFAO! You’re so sensitive. I love it. Like I said, I guess the incel comment hit close to home for you.

“Parroting stolen comments years ago”

Kinda like how Joker parroted stolen films from years ago. Lol
Monkeyballs2
Monkeyballs2 - 8/1/2024, 5:45 PM
@TCronson - and isn’t it a little bit funny how you’re accusing me of not thinking for myself and stealing other people’s comments over a director and film that stole other another filmmaker’s ideas?

And isn’t it also funny how you accuse me of stealing other people’s comments when you, in fact, just regurgitated my 4chan/buddies joke almost verbatim back at me? Seems you’re the one not using your brain.

Just calm down have a sense of humor. It’s just a movie. A stupid one at that.

These dudes just want to remake movies with their Joker in them lol..

The first one was Taxi Driver & King of Comedy and now this one perhaps might be One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest-esque.

Anyway , I do think this looks decent and better then the first one which I didn’t care much for so there’s that atleast.

@Monkeyballs2 - I find it more funny you decided to write 2 replies instead of one, one dumber than the other. I wrote that you stole old parroted to death comment word to word and your response is screaming about incels, 4chan and some buddies. Are you retarded? Or did I touch your nerve and you have nothing of substance to say? It's not even funny, it's just sad, you even decided to follow that with more stolen sentences to further prove my point. It seems you not only have monkey balls, but also monkey brain.
