As the Academy Awards near, Joaquin Phoenix picked up yet another award for Joker after receiving the "Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role in a Motion Picture" at the 26th Screen Actors Guild Awards for his portrayal of Arthur Fleck in the DC Comics adaptation.

During his acceptance speech, Phoenix paid homage to his fellow nominees - which included Christan Bale, Taron Egerton, Leonardo DiCaprio and Adam Driver -  as well as The Dark Knight's Heath Ledger (who played The Joker back in 2008 and won a "Best Supporting Actor" Oscar for his performance).

"Really, I'm standing here on the shoulders of my favorite actor, Heath Ledger," he says below:

It may have been a good night for Joker, but Avengers: Endgame also picked up a noteworthy award. Unfortunately, the superhero ensemble missed out on a "Best Picture" nomination at the Oscars despite widespread critical acclaim, and the fact that it's the highest grossing movie of all-time.

Well Joaquin, did right by Heath

Made a great movie, might have a real chance at best picture. When you do something like that...

Had no big budget
Had no China release
Had no flashy special effect
Had people actively trying to make it fail by bringing up bullshit drama about something possibly happening.
You know what they had, nothing to loose, and is now the most profitable superhero movie ever made
First you get the money

Then you get the Power

and if it does get a sequel

hopefully he gets the women

Seriously if they do a follow up, don't do Joker 2, do Harley, give Arthur a supporting role, occasionally cutting to Harley interviewing him, maybe escaping in the final act. First film was a hard look at mental illness, for Harley take a look at abusive relationships, and why people stay in them.

@RageDriver2401 - That’s a good acceptance speech. Maybe if he had given this one at the Golden Globes, he would have won the Academy members over.

As he should. As any actor who takes on this character from now on should. Respect.

I loved the movie. Is it perfect? No. I can't decide whether I like this movie b/c of the movie itself or the way Pheonix pulled it off. Probably a little bit of both. I love the MCU, but it's good to see DC put out a quality film like this. I can't even really compare this film to anything in the MCU, but I hope many more films like this from DC follow.

Would have liked to have seen Christian Bale's reaction to that statement. Probably hit him right in the feels.

So classy of Joaquin to do this. Heath is still the best Joker of all time but Phoenix nailed it with his interpretation of the character. Hope he does the same thing at the Oscars.
