But comic books and comic book movies have always included social commentary. 🤔

Take the X-men books and films. Originally created as a metaphor for Black civil rights movement according to Stan Lee and that morphed in the films to become an allegory about LGBTQ community and acceptance according to the creators. Mutants were literally "coming out".

Most people didn't even notice it. It all depends on the creator and how well crafted the film is.



Social commentary doesn't have to be heavy handed. Many people were shocked to find out the Empire in Star Wars were inspired by fascism and Nazi Germany but to some it was obvious.
