A DC movie universe needs to have Superman. I agree with your #1.

@M3T4LL0 -
Superman is the cornerstone and he actually needs to be heroic and an unapologetic goody two shoes. They have done Batman a zillion different ways so bringing some of the other B listers in is also important but you have to get the big one right.

@Goldboink - I think a Christopher Reeves style Superman would be a bad route. IMO Man of Strel nailed the type of Superman to have going forward.

I actually generally agree with this assessment. The world must ending!

Yes, keep The Batman separate. Precisely my thinking. It can succeed on it’s own. But I think that means we need another Batman to be part of the main shared DC universe. Unless Affleck wants to come back for lots of movies and change his character to be more of a contemporary and not the old man of the group.

Goldboink - 8/5/2022, 1:32 PM
@TheUnworthyThor -
It hall has to be one universe. You can't have multiple Batmen running around. Wipe the slate clean or just leave Batman off in his own little corner while you build the rest of the universe.
TheUnworthyThor
TheUnworthyThor - 8/5/2022, 2:21 PM
@Goldboink - Why does it have to be? Are audiences to stupid to tell the difference between two different actors? Because they are in for a world of hurt The Batman 2 and Joker 2 have two different Jokers (and another Harley Quinn). Or do you doubt the general public’s unending appetite for more Batman content?
Goldboink
Goldboink - 8/5/2022, 2:26 PM
@TheUnworthyThor -
It doesn't have to be but if you are trying to construct a unified universe it helps not to have several different Batmen running around. It's much easier to not worry about continuity and yes, people will buy whatever Batman you want to sell them but then which one winds up in JL?
TheUnworthyThor
TheUnworthyThor - 8/5/2022, 2:35 PM
@Goldboink - I really believe (and I think WB does too) that this is actually a situation where they can have their cake and eat it too. You can have Reeves create a new trilogy of grounded Batman films that people love and that they can monetize for years to come like they do with the Dark Knight trilogy and have a separate series of Batman movies that are grounded where he fight any of his more outlandish foes and team up with Superman and Wonder Woman. And personally I would cast in the new role of Batman (and Superman) for this new era of their shared universe.
Goldboink
Goldboink - 8/5/2022, 2:48 PM
@TheUnworthyThor -
Part of the problem is that they have been having their cake and eating it too and what they have is cake all over them and a disjointed universe. If a casual moviegoer has to figure out which Batman it is then it's a fail. You will have individual moves doing well but never hit that Billion that is the big prize.

At least that's my opinion.

@TheUnworthyThor - Couldn’t disagree more. If they’re going to have a cohesive universe, they all need to be in the same universe. I’m so sick of this “grounded tone” bullshit argument. Introducing Superman into the Pattinson movies would be the easiest thing in the world: Simply have Batman surveying the city from a rooftop and Superman descends silently behind him. Without even turning around, Bruce says something to the effect of “I’ve told you before Clark, this is my city” and Clark smiles a friendly smile and replies “Can’t a friend just drop in to say hi?” and Bruce just gives an annoyed grunt. No need for any convoluted explanation or ridiculous, contrived first meeting. It’s year 2 for Battinson (year 3 now?). Things can be assumed to have happened. They don’t need to be explained. There has to be a fantastical element to Batman’s universe anyway otherwise how can they possibly introduce villains like Clayface or Poison Ivy properly? Hell, the idea of Mr Freeze - whom people keep asking for in the sequel - and his cold gun is scientifically impossible, so they would already be stepping into that territory by bringing him in. If they don’t, all were going to get is yet MORE incarnations of Joker, Riddler and Two-Face. And I for one am sick to [frick]ing death of them. They can easily bring the superpowered aspect into the “grounded” world by making it no big deal. It simply is what it is; just another aspect to be investigated and countered without turning it into a CGI shitfest.

TheUnworthyThor - 8/5/2022, 7:32 PM
@Tasmaniac - Well sorry but that’s not what Reeves is going to do. He talked nonstop about grounding the world of Batman. Interview after interview. He twisted The Riddler into something entirely unlike the comic book villain. He already his Joker which was obviously play a role in the future movies and looks even more grounded than Ledger. His bat gear was all grounded. So either make the Batman movies that Reeves has envisioned (remember he threw out all the stuff Affleck had planned) or take away the movies from him and turn Batman into something more fantastical that will work with magic rings and children who say magic words. The two worlds are not compatible unless they want to make the huge mistake of making more grounded versions of every other DC superhero which would be a complete disaster, again.
TheUnworthyThor
TheUnworthyThor - 8/5/2022, 7:36 PM
@Goldboink - Unless Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson plan on sticking around for a long time (and they don’t) then you don’t have any other real option. We are only really probably talking about two more movies, one of which will probably come out before this new DCEU even gets started. We’re not talking about constantly going back and forth. One movie to finish off the trilogy squeezed somewhere in between the ten year plan of movies.

What a contradictory "article"

Everyone should be rebooted, but also highest priority is bringing back Cavill. What?

LongMayHeReign
LongMayHeReign - 8/5/2022, 12:39 PM
@ThorArms - Yea this is the dumbest set of guidelines I've ever seen. You can't reboot and still keep pieces of what came before because the audience will always remember those past films every time they see said actors.

Here is the only true guidelines Zaslav needs to follow for a successful DC films universe...

1) Get rid of everything, and I mean EVERYTHING!

2) Use this template as the ultimate goal...

3) Print money!

Philvis
Philvis - 8/5/2022, 12:47 PM
@LongMayHeReign - spot on! Justice League/Justice League Unlimited is an animated blue print on how the characters should be treated and storytelling done.
ThorArms
ThorArms - 8/5/2022, 1:17 PM
@LongMayHeReign - Yeah my only concern is The Batman didn't do well enough for this new regime. I'm hoping they let Reeves continue to do his thing without meddling. Why do I have such little faith that will be what happens?
Philvis
Philvis - 8/5/2022, 1:26 PM
@ThorArms - this is the part I'm torn on. I don't like the idea of having 2 Batmans. I did surprisingly enough REALLY enjoy The Batman. It was truly a Batman movie in my small minded opinion. 95% of the movie was Batman, he was actually a detective, and it was gritty like a Batman film should be in my opinion. Pattinson killed it for me. Never in a million years did I think I'd say that, as much hell as I've given him for Twilight. Maybe they can make him the only Batman. Unless it's a multiverse situation for a storyline, I don't want to see multiples of the same character.
LongMayHeReign
LongMayHeReign - 8/5/2022, 2:13 PM
@ThorArms - With how Zaslav laid out their plans to prioritize theatrical releases I think he's smart enough to see that The Batman suffered from numerous factors during it's release. Not the least of which being the audience knowing it was coming to HBO Max in 45 days before the damn movie even released Smh
LongMayHeReign
LongMayHeReign - 8/5/2022, 2:16 PM
@Philvis - Honestly they could literally do a one to one live action remake of JL and JLU and it would be the perfect live action universe, possibly even besting the Infinity Saga.
Origame
Origame - 8/5/2022, 3:07 PM
@ThorArms - yeah, cavill would just confuse things. We saw that with the x men franchise. You can't just ignore parts of the franchise while keeping the same cast and expect everyone to understand.

ThorArms
ThorArms - 8/5/2022, 12:13 PM
Regarding Batman, let Reeves complete his trilogy sooner rather than later. Start doing solo films for other DC properties set in a fantastical world, then eventually get to a Batman Beyond stand alone film. Setting the stage for a proper Justice League. We don't need a DCEU Batman in the next 5-7 years.
TheUnworthyThor
TheUnworthyThor - 8/5/2022, 12:15 PM
@ThorArms - Yeah because DC is known for holding back on Batman.

No origin movie for Superman (We know the story!!), new Lex Luthor, Metallo and Parasite.
TheUnworthyThor
TheUnworthyThor - 8/5/2022, 12:13 PM
I’d be all for a from the ground up reboot and replace everyone but considering the success of Aquaman and the first Wonder Woman I don’t think they will do that so I usually envision other scenarios. Plus I’d like to keep Peacemaker at least.
