I have no interest in getting invested in this new DCU. We all know the studio will find a way to F it all up.

If Zaslav cancelled Superman Legacy...I would support him 100%

@Forthas - Why the [frick] are you on a comic book movie forum so much if you don't want to see comic book movies do well?
Forthas
Forthas - 11/14/2023, 11:31 AM
@RoberTiger - Because I want to see comic book films done properly. Not the slapstick garbage that Gunn has made and infected the genre with. This above all things is why both the MCU and the DCEU are on the decline. People do not want the slapstick comedy of these films. It is silly and stupid. It is not a coincidence that the the six DC films that are grounded and serious (Dark Knight Trilogy, Man of Steel, Joker and The Batman) have NEVER lost money for the studio.

OleBobbyTiger - 11/14/2023, 12:04 PM
@Forthas - That's fair. I would agree the slapstick approach is getting exhausting. But we don't know if Legacy is slapstick or not yet, do we? Yet here you are cheering on it's failure.
Forthas
Forthas - 11/14/2023, 12:09 PM
@RoberTiger - Has Gunn ever done anything OTHER than that in the genre? He has made three guardians of the galaxy films and The Suicide Squad and the TV show Peacemaker. ALL SLAPSTICK!!!! Not to mention that this film is theoretcially supposed to be in the same universe as Peacemaker.

So I think it is fair for me to presume he will do the same in this case!

@Forthas - Take a deep breathe buddo. You're over-reacting. We're two years away from the movie and you're already triggered and full of hate.

@Forthas - I get the reservation to Gunn, given his history, but I’d love to see him knock it out of the park and shock us all.
SpiderParker
SpiderParker - 11/14/2023, 9:24 PM
@Forthas - That's untrue, Man of Steel made the company lose tons of money. Every movie in DCEU lost money cause of the weak portrayal of their poster boy in their first cinematic universe's movie. You could say, the only reason MOS itself didn't lose more money was because of the good faith DC had built up due to TDK trilogy but the bad faith of MOS caught in future projects.
Forthas
Forthas - 11/14/2023, 11:55 PM
@SpiderParker - You are completely wrong...

https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/films/news/batman-v-superman-set-to-be-less-profitable-than-man-of-steel-a6978411.html

Man of Steel brought in over $300 million for the studio per the article above. You have no idea what you are stating.
SpiderParker
SpiderParker - 11/15/2023, 1:51 AM
@Forthas - You have no idea what I stated. LOL.

I clearly said that MOS lost the company tons of money in more indirect ways. The reason BVS lost money is cause of MOS, the reason JL lost money is cause of MOS, the reason DCEU as a whole lost money is cause of MOS. You get it now? The downfall of DCEU can be traced back to MOS. Care to look at the bigger picture?

Blaming anyone other than Zaslav is lunacy.

As is believing that Gunn and Safran have a modicum of control on corporate level.

When Superman: Legacy underperforms, you can bet your bottom dollar they’ll cancel most of it, if not all. Only The Batman is safe.

If not through tax write offs, Zaslav will find another way to [frick] up the DCU

It's not safe. Gunns slate looks wack as [frick]. I'm sure zaslav is having second thoughts. He cancelled a film his own DC CEO wrote on🤡

Talk about being cucked👮

We'll only get two DCU movies a year from a franchise that is led by two guys who were put in their seats by Zaslav himself. Think Zaslav needs to have some trust if he's doing that

warner bros has a LONG history of business office decisions guiding the creative studio, so these moves aren't terribly surprising to somebody older than 30.

prima facie, it seems like their standard operating practice.

“When superman underperforms at the box office”

Zaslav and WBD already KNOW it will underperform.

Batman Begins didn’t tear up the box office because of how bad Batman and Robin was (and how bad Catwoman was the year prior). Building back trust takes time and a great movie or two.

All they care about is how the movie hits audiences when it comes out. They just want better universal appeal and some legs at the box office, that’s it.

I have my doubts but dang you guys already giving it last rites - I’ve already had my freezing cold takes moment so I’m not jumping to any conclusions. Then again, it’s the comments section of CBM, I should know better :)

I agree that it's weird looking back at that report and reading how the fault is appparently DeLuca and Abdy when they've never done anything like this. They're even the ones that brought Gunn and Safran to Zaslav.

You might wanna later make a thread about this as well @JoshWilding because this story is continuing and not lookig good for Zaslav and WBD.
