Singer shouldn't be on this list, first two X-Men and Days of Future Past are great movies and Wilding is a paid dummy who gave Trank's Capone 10/10 just because Trank gave him an interview or maybe Wilding just has a horrible taste.
slickrickdesigns
slickrickdesigns - 10/30/2023, 1:25 PM
@TCronson - singer sucks. X2 and DOFP were about the only decent things he did for X-men.
He made a horrible Superman movie and Xmen1 and Apocalypse were disappointing… and yes X1 in comparison to what came out around that time was ok but looking back on it just ask yourself… “What happens when a toad gets struck by lightning?”

@slickrickdesigns

Joss Whedon wrote that line… lol.

@TCronson - josh indeed has a horrible taste, hence his "jaw dropping" fan arts he posts by the also terrible boss logic and other pieces of shit poorly done he likes.
Origame
Origame - 10/30/2023, 2:12 PM
@TCronson - not to mention the double standards. He said comics were banned from set as reason to not bring him back, yet producers in the mcu are bragging that they consider being a fan of the source material as a red flag and the creators of secret invasion admitted to not even touching the book when making the show.
FinnishDude
FinnishDude - 10/30/2023, 2:28 PM
@TCronson - X-Men 1 is mediocre set-up movie, with boring direction, DOFP falls apart more you think about it and Apocalypse is one of the worst Marvel movies ever made.

@TCronson - he gave Capone 10/10??? Seriously?

Zack Snyder

@B1ackManta -
Yea, no mention of him here is telling.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 10/30/2023, 2:33 PM
@Goldboink - Not necessarily. Snyder's DC movies sucked. But you can't forget Watchmen and 300. Those were both fantastic movies in my opinion.
JustAWaffle
JustAWaffle - 10/30/2023, 2:50 PM
@CorndogBurglar - Yeah, Snyder fits in a certain lane for CBMs. He just needs to be bridled.
DudeGuy
DudeGuy - 10/30/2023, 3:16 PM
@B1ackManta - I want Snyder to do Spawn 😬
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 10/30/2023, 4:11 PM
@JustAWaffle - I think Snyder is good with comic book movies where the comics were just a one and done story. Because he can make that faithfully.

No one can take a characters with 60 years of backstory and comic history and make a 100% faithful adaptation. It's just not possible without changing things. And it just so happens that Snyder's changes for DC were really bad lol.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 10/30/2023, 4:12 PM
@DudeGuy - You know, that's actually a fantastic idea. Spawn is exactly the type of dark, edgy, extreme kind of stuff that Snyder could really do well. And his cinematography showing Spawns powers would be incredible to see.
Goldboink
Goldboink - 10/30/2023, 5:17 PM
@CorndogBurglar -
Those two are undoubtedly great movies and worthy of watching multiple times. His creative decisions on the DC stuff can't be forgiven though. The reason that both 300 and Watchmen were great is he was able to translate the graphic novel to the page very faithfully. Some argue that the changes in Watchmen were unwarranted but he really nailed each and every character and the few changes, like making Dr. Manhattan the scapegoat instead of an artificial alien can be forgiven as a cinematic adaptation.

Once Snyder convinced himself that he was a creative force rather than a good adapter of other people's work is when he started having problems.
B1ackManta
B1ackManta - 11/2/2023, 7:46 PM
@CorndogBurglar - Extended Watchmen is fantastic, and 300 is iconic, but those were successful adaptations of great comics. When it came time for him to make something original it fell apart at the seams. Zack Snyder knows how to make stuff look cool, but when it comes to story... not so much.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 11/2/2023, 8:36 PM
@B1ackManta - I agree. That's why his DC stuff was so bad. He excels at self contained stories like Watchmen and 300. But you can't make a perfect adaptation of characters with over 60 years of history, so you have to come up with new ways to do things and stories to tell.

I will admit though, as bad as Sucker Punch is, and as silly as Army of the Dead was, I still enjoy watching those movies. And his Dawn of the Dead remake is one of the best zombie movies of all time.

For most pretty much all his movies I can still watch them and get some kind of entertainment out of them. Except his DC stuff. I liked Man of Steel, I won't lie. But his whole world he set up and BvS and Justice League are just bad. I can't even watch them again.

You forgot Taika Waititi and Victoria Alonso.
asherman93
asherman93 - 10/30/2023, 1:41 PM
@IronMan616 - Can’t comment about Alonso, but I’d actually argue that while Ragnarok was a dumpster fire, Love and Thunder has me convinced he can do some decent Marvel stuff.
mountainman
mountainman - 10/30/2023, 2:07 PM
@asherman93 - Love and Thunder is the worst MCU movie ever.
asherman93
asherman93 - 10/30/2023, 2:33 PM
@mountainman - Nah. Ragnarok is the only bad one - though if you squint, I can see an argument about Black Widow or Eternals.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 10/30/2023, 2:35 PM
@asherman93 - Really? I hate both Ragnarok and Love and Thunder, but I realize I'm on the minority about Ragnarok.

It's a little surprising to see someone who thinks Love and Thunder was a good movie. I don't mean to he insulting. If you like it, you like it. More power to you. You just don't see many people say that lol.
JustAWaffle
JustAWaffle - 10/30/2023, 2:53 PM
@IronMan616 - I still love Ragnarok. Taika is another director who needs bumpers on his bowling lane. That said, L&T was the worst CBM I’ve seen in the last 10 years.
EskimoJ

@IronMan616 - Whose places would they take on this list of 6?
Mercwitham0uth
Mercwitham0uth - 10/30/2023, 4:40 PM
@JustAWaffle - yeah I really liked Ragnarok. Probably the best of Thor films imo.

Love & Thunder? [frick]ing hell what a complete downgrade. It made The Dark World look like a masterpiece.
slickrickdesigns
slickrickdesigns - 10/30/2023, 6:35 PM
@JustAWaffle -
“L&T was the worst CBM I’ve seen in the last 10 years.“

I’m guessing you skipped WW84, Shazam and the first Suicide Squad.
JustAWaffle
JustAWaffle - 10/31/2023, 1:43 AM
@slickrickdesigns - No I saw each of those and stand by my statement.
slickrickdesigns
slickrickdesigns - 10/30/2023, 1:33 PM
“For some reason, there now appears to be a consensus online that neither The Avengers nor Avengers: Age of Ultron were good movies.“

Who said that? I remember people complaining about AOU for setting up the infinity saga but I also remember fans praising it after endgame tied the room together. Ow did people hop on the joss Whedon hate wagon after Josstice League? Yes, yes they did.
Goldboink
Goldboink - 10/30/2023, 1:54 PM
@slickrickdesigns -
Those are both fine movies.
say what you will about Whedon personally but he can actually direct and has a pretty good grasp on things like story and characters.
Origame
Origame - 10/30/2023, 2:15 PM
@slickrickdesigns - yeah. People are more vocal about the films being bad. Doesn't mean there's suddenly a consensus they're bad now.

In fact, that consensus seemed to happen around the same time as his accusations and it being clear he wasn't getting work in Hollywood after that.

Surely there can't be a connection 🤣🤔
slickrickdesigns
slickrickdesigns - 10/30/2023, 4:48 PM
@Origame - yeah but what consensus? Do you mean a Josh Wilding top 5 worst cbm’s he put on a list for people to vote on?

Garfield is the only saving grace of those ASM movies, and honestly his Parker just came off more like a skater loner than a tortured nerd before he got his powers.
CAPTAINPINKEYE
CAPTAINPINKEYE - 10/30/2023, 1:35 PM
First Avengers movie was epic. Second one was good but it’s hard to top the first one. First Avengers movie is in my top ten of best CBMs.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 10/30/2023, 2:38 PM
@CAPTAINPINKEYE - Iron Man vs Thor was such a fun fight!

But then again, Hulkbuster Iron Man vs Hulk was also a really fun fight.

I don't know. I love both of them, so one fight scene isn't exactly going to make me like one over the other. But those are both really fun scenes.

“it's no wonder they're in no way, shape, or form considered canon in the MCU”

Still better than any Disney plus marvel offering though
