You should take "Man of Steel" out of the title...that is the greatest Superman film of all time and based on what I have seen will continue to be....

@Forthas - isn't that the movie where he lets Pa Kent commit suicide by tornado? Or am I misremembering

@McMurdo - I don't know of any Superman film where Pa Kent commits suicide. Not sure what you are alluding to.
Forthas
Forthas - 7/3/2024, 12:29 PM
@TheMetaMan - Just based on the costumes and the introduction of Krypto...I guarateee this will be no where near as epic as Man of Steel! I am not even sure Superman will be central to this film given how many of Gunn's friends and family are filling up the screen time.

@Forthas - For someone claiming it was such a great movie (man of steel) you have a pretty bad memory if you can't remember Pa Kent dying in a tornado as his son (man of steel) just watched. In my opinion "Man of Steel"was a piss poor interpretation of Superman. I thought so before I even left the theater, and struggled to justify the ending.

@Forthas - Superman II is the greatest Supes film ever. Superboy season 2 - 4 are second. WB's Superman & Lois is next.
Smallville sucked with horrible costumes, interesting villains they portrayed horribly, their Justice League was sh1t, and WAY too much teeny bopper drama going on.

I'd go with Routh as the next best, not in his film, but his way too short run as Kingdome Come Superman. Freaking Awesome.

Man of Steel.....
In the trilogy of Man of Steel, BvS, and ZSJL, how many lines of speaking did Henrey have? All 3 combined? Less than Bats in Bvs, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Blue Beatle, the Flash, Shazam! .... and so on. His Superman sucked and his Clark was 2000xs worse.

Get a grip on reality sir.

@SpideyQuad - I remember Pa kent dying in the Tornado and I have ZERO problem with that scene other than one creative choice. Had Zack Snyder used Dylan Sprayberry instead of Cavill in that scene...it would have had the proper effect intended. That is a minor error in an otherwise epic film.

Snyder's. It's like Elmer's but it's got like natty lite and vape juice in it.

Pa Kent died by choice. Just because he thought he was doing what was right for his son, doesn't make it not a suicide. He could've lived, he told hjis son no. He made a choice to die.

Suicide.

@Forthas - dude. I've tried to be civil with you, but you are, coming from a poster who likes talking with you a lot, but you are hanging onto something that failed...epically. There's a lot I liked about MoS, and the city damage didn't bother me. He just did not have the inspirational spirit Superman has.

For Example. Chris Reeve was first presented to the world by catching Lois from falling to her death and then caught the helicopter and saving the dude's life in that thing. The crowd instantly cheered and knew Supes was there to protect them.

Man of Steel? His first exposure to the public dressed as Supes and all let himself be arrested by the military and taken in by cuffs. Gee, I wonder why the citizens of Metropolis didn't trust him.

Long story short, you are barking up the wrong tree. Man of Steel was great I thought. But it couldn't touch George Reeves, Christopher Reeve, Gerald Christopher, Brandon Routh, and Tyler Hoechlin.

Dean Cain...? eh Smallville? Way better than that teeny-bopper trash.

@lazlodaytona - What in the F#CK are you talking about. In what conceivable way did Man of Steel fail? It was profitable, led to a sequel that outperformed Man of Steel at box office...and led to the green lighting of the DCEU. Where is the "failure"?

You QUALIFY YOUR EXAMPLES to meet your needs. Superman in Man of Steel first SAVES a bus filled with children , as an adult saves the people in the oil rig. That fact that it was public is something YOU want tomake a thing and it is not. So spare me the garbage about how he first became a hero in public. Cavill's Superman was aving people BEFORE Reeves on their respective time lines. When he was a kid...how is that less of a hero?
Forthas
Forthas - 7/3/2024, 1:17 PM
@lazlodaytona - @lazlodaytona - You can continue to believe that Man of Steel is not a good film becuase the Matrix is telling you to beleive it....but the fact are the fcat most of the criticisms leveled against Man of Steel are also present in Donner's films or in the comics. I am still waiting for you to show otherwise. I would have more respect for a person who was consistent and did not like Man of Steel OR Donner's films.

It was the first Superman movie I felt like Supes was finally able to punch as hard as he can.

@Forthas - "Where is the "failure"?"

MoS turned a tiny profit for WBs who were expecting a billion dollar hull just because of the name brand:

"Was Man of Steel a successful movie?
Though the film was somewhat divisive, Snyder's unique style made Man of Steel a success, putting a fresh spin on the hero's well-known origin story. However, the franchise-building sequels that followed were fraught with issues, many of which began with Man of Steel.Aug 18, 2023"

"What is the profit of deadline Man of Steel?
As per Deadline's report, Man Of Steel had raked in just a little over $42 million as profit. If compared with $668 million, the profit is a little over 6%. That's a bit shocking!Sep 19, 2023"

Failure

BvS: "BvS ultimately made after considering all revenue streams for the film itself and subtracting all of the assorted costs. What is this? In the end, the film grossed $873m at the Worldwide box office, of which WB will pocket $367m. (The rest going to the theaters that showed the film.)"
Ouch. The two most iconicworldwide superheroes made WB just above $350 milliom. Oh, wait:
Oh wait, with a budget of almost $180 to $2 million + and marketing cost around $160 million.....

eeks. doesn't look good for Snyder's universe. Oh, and the failure? was those two films adding up to a Whedon-led clustf**k of Justice League. You really don't wanna the numbers to that one.

keep yapping about the DCEU verse. It may have been great for you but, as proven with the new DCU, Snyder's vision was an epic failure.

@Forthas - who did Superman kill in Superman: The movie by Donnor?
Forthas
Forthas - 7/3/2024, 1:53 PM
@SATW42 - So I guess you slept through that part...Pa Kent tells his super powered son to stay with his mother to protect her while he bravely went to save their dog they accidently left trapped in the car. At a certain point he has hurt his foot and realizes he can't walk, his son thinks about going to save him but Pa Kent waives him off to protect his identity...considering he MIGHT not make it (but does not know that) for a moment he looks lovingly at his son before seconds later (I presume he is crushed by some debris). That is NOT suicide. Now that you know what actually happened and not the fairy tales your friends and people on this site keep falsely repeating I think you are good to go.
Forthas
Forthas - 7/3/2024, 1:59 PM
@lazlodaytona - You keep brining up BVS which I have stated quite clearly is not something I defend. But of course you have to because you can't say man of Steel is a failure on its own. if it is a failure then so is Captain America First Avenger, Thor, and even The Batman.
Forthas

@narrow290 - I’m not throwing shade at Gunn. I’m actually throwing shade at Warner bros. They have hired him to make a superman movie but if the movie fails it’s due to their influence and meddling as always. I don’t doubt Gunn, it’s the studio i don’t trust. I really hope I’m wrong but I just get this feeling it’s going to be silly, goofy and overstuffed.
TheMetaMan

@Forthas - That is a very interesting observation. I too hate the tornado scene, however, if Clark were pre-adolescent, the scene would have hit much better. I would have been ok with that.
The neck snap always made sense to me and served as a great multi-leveled motivator toward a no kill morality.
Baf
Baf - 7/3/2024, 3:01 PM
@Forthas - I would also say that Snyder should push to get a Snyder-cut with just that scene altered. Then all would be well in the world.
