Moon Knight star Oscar Isaac has revealed what drew him to the role(s?) of Marc Spector, saying he believes the limited series serves as Marvel Studios' first true character study since 2008's Iron Man.

Oscar Isaac is no stranger to the Marvel Universe after playing En Sabah Nur in 2016's X-Men: Apocalypse, but he'll make his MCU debut in Moon Knight as Marc Spector. And Stephen Grant. And, er, probably a few other personalities, too! While that X-Men movie was considered a disappointment, the excitement for this Disney+ series could not be any higher.

Talking to Empire Online, Isaac admitted that after his previous Marvel experience and the latest Star Wars trilogy, he considered walking away from big franchises. Then, Moon Knight came along. "Often on these big movies it can feel like you’re building the plane on the runway," he explains. "The idea of getting back to ‘handmade’ films, character studies. I was desperate for that feeling."

"[Moon Knight] felt 'handmade.' And it’s the first legitimate Marvel character-study since Iron Man," Isaac adds. "I thought, 'Maybe I can hijack this thing. Maybe this is the chance to do something really [frick]ing nutty on a major stage.'"

"What I love most about this thing is that it’s an exploration of a mind that doesn’t know itself. A human being that doesn’t know his own brain. I found that really moving: what the mind is capable of as far as survival. But the workload was massive: the technical challenge of embodying these different characters, physically, the way I manifest my body. It required a lot of energy."

Moon Knight arrives on Disney+ on March 25, and we're certainly intrigued to find out what taking a deep dive into Marc Spector's mind is going to look like. Last night, Marvel Studios released a Super Bowl TV spot for the limited series along with some badass new stills highlighting the vigilante.

With these comments comes a new still teasing Marc Spector's fractured mind!

I think he was kinda miscast for Apoc, especially because Fox was Fox and thought a Power Rangers sauna suit would work, but this is right in his wheelhouse.

We need more character studies, not just flashy cgi and cringey ass jokes. I'm sure the clowns will disagree lol

@bobevanz - I say this all the time when high-caliber/legendary directors (sans Roland Emmerich) come out against superhero movies, but of course, I'm *always* the bad guy for it.

@bobevanz - this is such a dig at the MCU and it’s on point. Most of the MCU films are light on character and heavy on humor, humor consistently undercutting drama and characterization sacrificed for the sake of a laugh. Character driven humor hasnt been on table for some time. But nice to see that first Iron Man get the credit it deserves. It’s still a top 3 MCU film. BECAUSE it’s a character study

I feel that I'm the only one who's not in love with the crescent cape gliding shot. It just looks off to me, like the cape is not supposed to be able to do that, even if it's magical.

@Fares - it’s not suppose unless cape is shaped like that but that’s consequences of have comic accurate stuff in live action shows and movies it’s doesn’t look realistic to pull off in real world and some comic accurate stuff looks stupid and goofy when it comes down to certain characters with there costumes

Show looks great but as spawn fan I have feeling I will see more spawn references than moon knight stuff in this gliding moon shape cape thanks to spawn, how costume he becomes moon knight thanks to spawn and venom

I don’t really get the “character study” distinction, but okay.

I feel like all of Marvel's movies are a character study to some extent. That's a big part of what separates them.

I havent watched Moon Knight yet so he's probably right on that but Iron Man? Was that really a character study? I don't think so. Not anymore than say Stephen Strange who went from a man of science to a man of faith.

Honestly you can say most Marvel characters fit that bill. From Iron Man to Cap to Dr Strange to Wanda to Loki etc.

@Typhoon20 - can’t blame em for the self hype, and what better or rather cooler character than Tony soprano Stark

I think plenty of Marvel movies could be considered a character study but especially say the tv shows. Wandavision and Loki in particular are almost entirely about exploring who those characters are.
