CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS - PART 3 Digital Version Makes A Major Change To Mark Hamill's Joker Voice

CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS - PART 3 Digital Version Makes A Major Change To Mark Hamill's Joker Voice CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS - PART 3 Digital Version Makes A Major Change To Mark Hamill's Joker Voice

When Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part Three went on sale last month, fans were quick to point out something off about Mark Hamill's voice as The Joker. Now, it's been quietly changed...

Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part Three marks the late Kevin Conroy's final performance as Batman as he returns as the version of the hero from Batman: The Animated Series.

Making that even more special is the fact Mark Hamill reprises the role of The Joker...or does he? When the movie was released, fans were quick to point out that something sounded off about his Clown Prince of Crime and many doubted it was even Hamill at all.

Still, the legendary Star Wars actor was credited as The Joker and, when we spoke to longtime DC Animated Universe executive producer Butch Lukic, he also confirmed it was Hamill voicing the villain.

"Once we told Hamill...we told him, 'Look, Kevin is doing it' and he always called us if Kevin was doing even just a couple of lines," Lukic explained. "He said, 'As long as Kevin is doing it, I'm all in,' and that was that. Even though he did state a couple years before that he'd retired from The Joker, he did want to do this one."

"Again, he didn't know anything as far as what Kevin's outcome was going to be. He was just doing it because it was a good end statement to Batman: The Animated Series for both of them."

The plot has thickened today as fans on social media have noticed that the Digital version of Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part Three has changed The Joker's voice. The new version sounds a lot more like Hamill and, while the original version also did (to a much lesser extent), there's a very clear difference between both.

Is it possible Warner Bros. Animation accidentally released the movie with a temporary actor or perhaps even whoever was meant to play The Joker before Hamill agreed to return? We'd say it's likely, though the studio only just now realising the voice is incorrect is...odd.

It's a bizarre situation, but with the Tomorrowverse now over, we don't anticipate anyone involved with these movies making an official comment. Hamill also hasn't chimed in and there's been speculation that the studio may have originally used A.I. in place of the actor himself.

Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part Three is now available on Digital, 4K UHD in limited edition SteelBook packaging, and Blu-ray. You can check out the comparison below.

I thought Mark just got old and didn't give it a second notice. Was more focused on Kevin anyway. But wow, so lazy from DC.

@Kadara - What was also disappointing was how all these other universes were just briefly shown to then be erased. They could've at least had some of the characters on the ship with the main cast or have more interactions with them. The Tomorrowverse was complete garbage.

They fortified it with Green Space Walrus Tit Milk

Yep that's Mark. The laugh is the biggest giveaway. That original laugh isn't even the right sounds (if you know what I mean).

Makes the clip even more awesome.

Makes it quite interesting now with what went on. Was it someone else? Was it AI? Was the plan always to switch it out for Mark? If so what stopped him from doing the first cut?

MH has been voicing the character for 30 years. People are going to notice if something sounds off. And they did.

How do you [frick] this up?
It really took me out of the scene, but Batman's last line made me shed a tear. I'll never watch these again so they really messed this up, great job dumbasses

This scene actually sucked and makes zero sense and isn't something that'd happen in the OG series. It is extremely poorly thought out and lazy fan service.

The entirety of these Crisis movies were abominable and a slog to sit through. They sucked.

@HermanM - Agreed. I'd even go so far to say that the whole Crisis saga was blasphemous to the Timm era. I doubt I will ever watch another new DC animated movie again. I'll stick with the classic Timm shows/movies, basically that came before the New 52 stuff.

@PapaBear562 - yeah, I just watched BTAS & JLU last night, and the writing, characterizations, art, and animation is soooo much better. It's truly the best representation of DC of all time. It is amazing how much has fallen off since the New 52.

The last good animated movie was Gods & Monsters.

@HermanM - Even the CW did a better Crisis than this. It wasnt exactly comic accurate and had a ton of budget limitations, but it was pretty damn good for what they had to work with, within the Arrowverse.

@HermanM - I watch the Timm shows and movies every chance I get. Everything done during that era was outstanding. DC really screwed the pooch with the Crisis disaster.

So the opening sequence for Batman The Animated Series was actually the end of that earth? That’s disappointing to know. 🤷‍♂️

The release version sounds closer to what Hamill has been doing with the character since at least Return of the Joker, giving the character a rougher & meaner voice, while they new version sounds closer to what he did back for The Animated Series/New Batman Adventures, I wasn't even aware he could still hit that tone.

I do think both takes are Hamill's, recorded in a quick 30 minutes where he did a couple line readings in different Joker intonations for the crew to choose.

So if you bought the physical version (DVD/blu ray) you're not getting Mark Hamill's voice?
