7 More Fox Marvel Characters Who Deserve A Second Chance In The MCU After DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE

Deadpool & Wolverine gave characters like Elektra and Gambit a second chance in the MCU and, as the Multiverse Saga continues, there are some other heroes and villains we'd like to see on screen again...

We went into Deadpool & Wolverine expecting the movie to close the door on the Fox-verse. Instead, it celebrated Earth-10005 and set the stage for that world to continue to flourish alongside Earth-616/the Sacred Timeline.

While we'd hoped for cameos, the threequel upped the ante by taking us into the Void before giving Elektra (Jennifer Garner), Blade (Wesley Snipes), Gambit (Channing Tatum), and X-23 (Dafne Keen) a second chance. It felt really special but has got us thinking...which other Earth-10005 heroes and villains deserve a second chance in the MCU?

This could be in an upcoming Multiverse Saga project (which seems most likely) or even in the softly rebooted MCU which is rumoured to be the plan for this shared world post-Avengers: Secret Wars. Hopefully, the names before surprise you!

7. Daredevil

Concept art has confirmed that there were early discussions about bringing Ben Affleck back as Daredevil in Deadpool & Wolverine and, honestly, we're a little heartbroken that it didn't happen.

The 2003 movie isn't the best (though the Director's Cut is a pretty solid watch) but Affleck, who is now better known for playing Batman, was a good Man Without Fear. Just imagine seeing the silhouette of his Daredevil, hearing that voice, and then the Hell's Kitchen vigilante emerging from the shadows like a certain Dark Knight. It would break the internet!

We don't want Charlie Cox to be overshadowed if he ends up part of the next Avengers movies, but Affleck's Daredevil fighting alongside Nic Cage's Ghost Rider is something we need in our lives.

6. Silver Surfer

Doug Jones was the Silver Surfer's body double in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, but it was Man of Steel star Laurence Fishburne who provided the iconic hero's voice.

The movie wasn't great, but there's no getting around the fact that, alongside Chris Evans' Human Torch, the Surfer was a highlight. A big part of that was thanks to Fishburne's voiceover work as he injected life into the character in a way that made him feel both otherworldly and heroic. That's a must for the often-conflicted herald of Galactus.

The actor has since played Bill Foster in Ant-Man and The Wasp. However, we can't imagine Marvel Studios has big plans for him, so it would be easy enough for the actor to step back into the recording booth and add this "classic' Silver Surfer to the mix elsewhere in the Multiverse Saga.

5. Psylocke

X-Men: Apocalypse was the closest Fox ever got to making an MCU-style movie, but it didn't resonate with fans or critics. The franchise's cartoonish new direction was the beginning of the end for these characters, but there were at least a few bright spots we can appreciate.

Those include Olivia Munn's take on Psylocke. The actress wasn't given much to work with, but still somehow stood out in an adventure full of questionable creative decisions and poor performances. Now, we'd love to see her get a second chance.

In the comics, Betsy Braddock was the sister of Captain Britain who ended up inhabiting the body of an assassin called Kwannon. They were ultimately separated, with Betsy becoming the new Captain Britain, and Kwannon returning to her life as a hired killer. The Captain Britain Corps have ties to the Multiverse so we'd head in that direction.

4. Professor X

Sir Patrick Stewart confirmed he'd met with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige to discuss Professor X and returned to the role in 2022's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. It was a fun cameo which saw him sit in Charles Xavier's classic wheelchair to face the Scarlet Witch.

He died, of course, and while there are bound to be other Variants who look like Stewart, it would be no bad thing for James McAvoy to reprise the role in the MCU. His work in those prequel movies is hugely underrated and we'd love to see what else he can do with the character.

Marvel Studios will likely want to reboot Professor X for the eventual X-Men reboot, but if McAvoy is willing to return for that, then he could potentially play the team's leader for many years to come. We'd probably put a Krakoa-style spin on the mutant.

3. Magik

The New Mutants got caught up in the Disney/Fox merger and was released without ever having undergone the necessary reshoots to give it the polish it so badly needed. A post-credits scene setting up a sequel was also never shot and it's no wonder the movie struggled.

Still, if there's one actor and character we can't fault, it's Anya Taylor-Joy's Magik. As forgettable as the rest of the cast was for the most part (sorry), she stole the show and proved to be so perfect as this character that it's hard to imagine anyone else playing her.

Her connection to Limbo and dark magic could see Magik become a crucial figure in a future Multiverse Saga movie. Plus, if Earth-10005's mutants are going to be a pivotal part of what comes next, then she should absolutely be there alongside her brother Colossus.

2. Cable

Josh Brolin's work as Thanos in the Avengers movies was nothing short of perfect, but the Mad Titan's story came to an end in Avengers: Endgame. With that in mind, there's really nothing to stop him from returning as Cable, especially after he stole the show in Deadpool 2.

That sequel only scratched the surface when it came to the time-travelling mutant's story, and now the concept has been introduced in the MCU, he'd fit right into this world of multiple timelines and whatnot.

Remember, he's the son of Cyclops and Jean Grey, so the mutant being involved in the next big screen iteration of the X-Men may be a given. However, it would be no bad thing to bring him and Zazie Beetz as Domino back for another team-up with Ryan Reynolds' Merc with the Mouth when Wade Wilson and Wolverine inevitably cross paths with The Avengers.

1. Magneto

The X-Men franchise definitely needs to move on from Magneto, but there are still many different ways this villain could be used. That includes taking him down the heroic/anti-hero route that's proven so popular in his recent comic book adventures. Even as a member of the X-Men, he doesn't shy away from taking extreme measures to deal with the humans that threaten them.

With all due respect to the legendary Sir Ian McKellen, Michael Fassbender has always been the better Master of Magnetism. Having never really been given particularly strong material to work with since Matthew Vaughn left the series, Fassbender would surely jump at the chance to join the MCU.

We'd like to see Magneto leading the X-Men alongside Professor X, avoiding the predictable villain turn down the line by clashing with Charles philosophically rather than physically. Then again, a scene with the Scarlet Witch in Avengers: Doomsday is also mighty tempting...

It was an objectively good movie in my opinion, just cherry picked characters that shouldn’t have been there and made mystique the star because Jennifer Laurence happened to blow up. She’s one of my favorite actresses but damn, mystique did not need to be the leader of the X-men

I would prioritize characters more in need of redemption over ones that were already good in their other appearances. Nobody liked the Elektra movie but Jennifer Garner is getting a lot of praise for her D&W role. People didn’t like Origins Gambit and Tatum’s version in D&W was mostly well received. Top 7 in need of redemption:

@mountainman - I agree completely with both lists, although I truly hope I don’t see another phoenix run for a while and apocalypse can be too close to darkseid and thanos if he’s done right. I’d prefer a good sinister run or having magneto an actual true villain and having Xavier to wipe his mind to stop him. Boom onslaught as a threat that takes all avengers

@NonPlayerC - I don’t want another Phoenix story only because it’s been done terribly twice already. Maybe in some years down the road. I’m really only speaking to which characters can get cool cameos in the Multiverse Saga. You can have Famke Jensen as a more accurate Jean and/or Phoenix show up similar to the D&W cameos.

Story wise to build real mutant movies, the above list doesn’t apply. Just people that we can get cool redemption cameos over the next few years.

I wouldn’t mind seeing some of these like McAvoy and Fassbender’s Prof X and Magneto again as cameo in SW but that’s it tbh.

Please Feige , have a clean slate for the X-Men in the likely soft rebooted MCU with new actors for all of them especially Charles and Erik!!.

@S8R8M - I’m almost certain iceman will be gay since the comics redo of him. How Bobby drake goes from the biggest ladies man of the X-men to his younger self meeting his older to explain that he’s actually gay still is grating to me. Am I against gay people no, just make new characters, don’t change characters that people have read their entire lives, get creative and make new ones

@NonPlayerC - I wouldn't say homophonic or anything. I completely get it because like myself, you saw those characters as they were from the beginning and you want to see them come full circle. If it worked with the story yes but if they did it to pander than no.
For me, I want to see iceman at his peak form, like when cyclops blew a hole through his stomach and he had to remain in his ice-y condition to avoid his intestines falling out. That would be class to see!

What a sad and pathetic excuse for an article.

Let the FoX-Men die already. Hugh was nice but we can do better. Let’s not get too attached to specific actors playing these roles. It’s that logic that caused Ironman to be killed off and BP etc.

These characters are larger than any actors could ever be. The policy should always be to recast and move forward.

If anything the MCU has proven to be light years better than the Fox-verse, nostalgia can take a hike, we need new need blood.

I still want to see cross overs between Cap and Wolvie or Black Widow and Daredevil. We have sooooo much yet to explore that we’ll never get to see if we tie ourselves to specific actors and once they age out or tire of the role the character gets killed off? Wack

@MuadDib - yeah you can already see where marvel is kinda pigeon holing themselves already. That said since it’s a shared universe you’re not gonna please everyone. Not having iron man and cap at the same time as fantastic four and X-men seems strange. We’ll see how it plays out here I guess

@TheVisionary25 - It seems Marvel itself doesn't want to move on from the old versions. We could have had a fresh start after Disney bought Fox and I think most people would have been ok with that because it was expected, like with Tom Holland as Spider-man. Instead they decided to use the multiverse to bring them back, to pick and choose, and now it's going to be harder to convince the fans of why it's necessary to recast when some of these characters are already part of the MCU. In other words, if they're going to cast RDJ as Doom then I want Fassbender back as Magneto lol

For one , you are using an actor that was previously in the MCU to play a new , different character while Fassbender would just be reprising a role he’s already played

I do get yah though since nostalgia is a powerful thing and while it’s debatable lol if this was necessary or not , I almost view this Multiverse Saga as a bit of a love letter to the history of Marvel on screen (good or bad) until we fully close the door on that and move onto the next phase that is more of a clean slate for certain characters like the X-Men or even FF to an extent…

Atleast that’s my hope

Love letter or not (and I agree that's part of it, the other part being easy money) they broke their own "rules" with all this. Now you're going to have people asking for Scarlett Johansson as Moonstone or whatever, things like that, and it doesn't matter that she was BW. Hugh Jackman retired and the fans were ready to move on I think, but now? People love him in the role and they found a way to keep him, so why not keep him? Closing that door is going to be even more difficult now.

@ModHaterSLADE - I'd love to have them back even if just for one movie. They reenergized the franchise and then Fox decided to waste them to focus on Mystique and keep jumping decades so they could recast the X-Men to tell the same stories and ruin them a second time.

Unless there was a retcon I'm unaware of, Cable is the son of Cyclops and Madeline Pryor. She was Jean's clone. I think there was some limited series where Scott and Jean transplanted someone in the future and were actually the ones who raised him though.
