DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE Easter Egg May Have Hinted At Robert Downey Jr.'s MCU Return As Doctor Doom DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE Easter Egg May Have Hinted At Robert Downey Jr.'s MCU Return As Doctor Doom

A Deadpool and Wolverine Easter egg which seems to have flown under the radar may have foreshadowed the news that Robert Downey Jr. is set to return to the MCU as Doctor Doom...

Deadpool and Wolverine is jam-packed with nods, references, and Easter eggs (maybe more than any previous superhero movie), and while quite a few couldn't be any more blatant, others are a little more subtle.

Now, one fan has noticed something that might just be foreshadowing the recent SDCC announcement that Tony Stark actor Robert Downey Jr. will return to the MCU as the villainous Doctor Doom.

This doesn't really count as a major reveal, but just in case, spoiler warning.

When Wade Wilson and Logan are captured by Pyro and taken to Cassandra Nova's lair, they are greeted by a number of different characters and vehicles from earlier Marvel Studios and 20th Century Fox movies, including the Red Skull's ride from Captain America: The First Avenger.

The car looks practically identical - aside from one thing: Instead of the HYDRA logo on the hood, it's Iron Man's symbol.

RDJ isn't playing a new take on the Red Skull (obviously), but this may still be a little nod to the Stark Variant's "heel turn" - if indeed he is going to be an evil incarnation of Tony and not an entirely new character.

Or, this is simply Shawn Levy and Ryan Reynolds having a bit of fun. After all, the rumor that Downey Jr. might be back as a twisted version of the Armored Avenger has been doing the rounds for a while.

Check out the video below, and let us know what you think in the comments section.

The MPAA recently gave the movie an official R-rating for: "Strong bloody violence and language throughout, gore, and sexual references."

“Marvel Studios presents their most significant mistake to date - Deadpool & Wolverine," reads the new synopsis. "A listless Wade Wilson toils away in civilian life. His days as the morally flexible mercenary, Deadpool, behind him. When his homeworld faces an existential threat, Wade must reluctantly suit-up again with an even more reluctantlier... reluctanter? Reluctantest? He must convince a reluctant Wolverine to - F*ck. Synopses are so f*cking stupid.”

In addition to Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in the title roles, Deadpool and Wolverine will see Morena Baccarin (Vanessa), Leslie Uggams (Blind Al), Rob Delaney (Peter), Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead) And Shioli Kutsuna (Yukio) return as their respective characters, and they'll be joined by franchise newcomers Emma Corrin (The Crown) and Matthew Macfadyen (Succession), who will play a TV agent and Charles Xavier's evil counterpart, Cassandra Nova.

Shawn Levy directs Deadpool and Wolverine from a script by Ryan Reynolds, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Zeb Wells.

That's just variants and what if scenarios. They painted the Hydra car in the same Hot Rod markings that Tony had. So maybe it's a pruned timeline where Howard Stark became Iron Man and that was his car.

@WruceBayne - there wasn’t any hints at RDJ being Doom because this wasn’t a thing until Johnathan Majors lawsuit that subsequently ended the live action Kang.

@WruceBayne - exactly

Why they didn’t just recast Kang (especially with the built in excuse of the variants) is beyond me.

JoeInTheBox - 7/31/2024, 8:38 AM
@TheVisionary25 - I don't think recasting Kang would have helped. They already set that story line up for failure, by having multiple Kang's easily dispatched, by lower tier characters no less(i.e. Sylvie with He Who Remains and Scott and Hope with Kang). Not including Victor Timely. Hard to build momentum when you kill that momentum at every turn.

@JoeInTheBox - perhaps but you could easily introduce a Prime version that is more dangerous then the others.

@TheVisionary25 - The damage had already been done, and a large segment of the audience is already tired of the Multiverse Saga. Keeping Kang as the face of it, will not instill excitement back in it.

Bringing back RDJ, the Russos, and pivoting away from Kang, might not work either, but it's generated a lot more buzz than anything the MCU has done in the last couple years pre-Deadpool and Wolverine.

What a stretch.

What's next, that marvel cares so much about the fandom that they wont shoot a cameo scene without the big actors being together 🤣

While I am going to keep an open mind about it and admit there is the potential for it to be something really unique...I hope RDJ's turn as Dr. Doom is really a huge misdirect and Marvel thinks long and hard about this plot direction.

Unpopular discussion here,

But has anyone seen the opinions around RDJ replacing Majors as the big bad?

RDJ being someone who was given the opportunity to resurrect his career after scandal after scandal, serving actual time for actual crimes and so on.

Then there's major's who was found guilty on the lesser 2 of 4 charges and not guilty of intended assualt and did not need to serve time outside of court mandated therapy.

Ok I get the crimes were different, but one was an actual convict who is now coming back to take on the role as the big bad after Majors dismissal and Marvel changing course from Kang to Doom (it seems).

Timing may be at play here, but the fact they've brought him back with such a ridiculous payday is worth talking about.

I just thought it would be something worth discussing.

@Conquistador - RDJ was a substance abuser. Majors was a physically abusive individual. One is an addiction that is hard to overcome and the other is a mental health issue that takes time and patience to heal. No studio wants to deal with someone who might beat up an employee out of anger.

Conquistador - 7/31/2024, 2:24 AM
@SonOfAGif -

Ok, but RDJ had capacity and repeatedly offended despite getting help...ok eventually he corrected himself.

Majors, as far as the court is concerned there was only 1 act of phyiscal abuse and was found to be abusive only in the nature of neglect, not intentional.

Jabbering even stated there was no other abuse apart from that incident went asked on the stand.

Conquistador - 7/31/2024, 2:26 AM
@SonOfAGif - Also said incident happened outside in his personal life. There are previous reports of Majors being a dick outside of the work place but I've not seen or heard anything of him being unprofessional when working on a project. Same couldn't be said for RDJ back then.
DarthOmega
DarthOmega - 7/31/2024, 2:39 AM
@Conquistador - RDJ's crimes happened long before he was cast. He had already made a huge change and even made a comeback in films like Kiss Kiss Bang Bang showing he was committed again. He was also a veteran at this point with an Oscar nomination and several successful films under his belt. Marvel knew it was risky but they were willing to roll the dice. Smart decision.

Major's on the other hand had already been cast and made appearances leading up to even more appearances in the future. Marvel was not willing to gamble on something that new and ongoing. Also from a business standpoint. I don't think Kang generated that much excitement.

As bad as it sounds this was a plus for Marvel. Now they can drop a storyline and character the majority of audiences didn't know or care about and focus on giving them something they can truly be excited for. Just listen to all of the speculation and buzz this is already generating.
Conquistador
Conquistador - 7/31/2024, 2:51 AM
@DarthOmega - Yeah, like I said, I think timing is playing a part here. With Downey being cast when he was already on a better projectary and then the incident with Majors being very recent when already under Disney....

BUT what I'm saying here is that they (Not Yet under Disney) gave someone who was convicted and served time for multiple offences a chance, and now bringing him back whilst under Disney with a Major payday (pun intended) to replace the guy who was found not guilty on the more concerning accusations.

I wonder what the mood will be like in a few years though, will the public give the same grace to Majors? Especially as it was assualt through neglect, in a matter of his personal life, didn't serve time and was known to also be professional in the workplace.

bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 7/31/2024, 3:02 AM
@Conquistador - I think it's definitely timing. RDJ already had done his time in the shame pit and got out by the time he got cast, while Majors' is just beginning.
DarthOmega
DarthOmega - 7/31/2024, 3:03 AM
@Conquistador - At the end of the day you have to look at those dollars. Ant-Man Quantumania didn't exactly wow audiences or critics and didn't bring in that much money. I don't think most audiences even know or care about Kang. They know RDJ will get butts in seats. At the end of the day this is the movie business. Given RDJ's financial track record with the MCU he's a sure bet.

If audiences had to choose between Robert and Jonathan, who do you think wins? We all know the answer to that. You could argue one guy has a clean record and the other guy doesn't. But only one of those guys proved they can make Marvel/Disney billions.
Conquistador
Conquistador - 7/31/2024, 3:16 AM
@DarthOmega - Oh no doubt, putting Majors aside, the RDJ casting FOR Doom is purely business and not about casting the right person for the role. I'm not sure thought the financial cost is worth it though...100 mill for two movies for just one actor... the amount that will be spent on the production and directors...then marketing.. the movie will need to cross 2 bill to see a profit at this stage...not impossible for an Avengers movie, but dammm..spend some of that on the vfx artist, give maybe 10 mill to another actor who would do just as good a job.

Conquistador - 7/31/2024, 3:17 AM
@bkmeijer1 - Yeah, how you think it's going to be for him about 5 years?

I suppose if Jabbari's civil suit moves forward he may get the opportunity to give more insight...could go either way though.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 7/31/2024, 4:07 AM
@Conquistador - I have no idea. I don't really know how much is true of what is said to have happened. I guess it could go either way, but I don't wanna see him go on another apology tour. That really didn't feel genuine last time.
ObserverIO
ObserverIO - 7/31/2024, 5:54 AM
@Conquistador - I think the real reason they replaced Kang with Doom was because Kang just wasn't working as the big bad. And they needed Doom for Secret Wars. The scandal with Majors was just a perfectly timed opportunity to change direction.
IronMan616
IronMan616 - 7/31/2024, 8:29 AM

@soberchimera - Yeah, one got a prison sentence a few times and the other got court mandated therapy for neglect not intent. Still think it's black and white?
