The first two The Fantastic Four films are guilty pleasures of mine. They’re so unapologetically campy and cheesy, with some horribly written dialogue, sure. But they don’t shy away from their comic book roots.

@Se4M4NSt4ine - Yeah rewatching them recently and I don't get why the get a bad rap. There's nothing egragiously bad about them (minus the Galactus cloud sure), they are pretty solid/fine 2000s studio flicks overall. They're fine.

The cast works well together (Chiklis killed it) and they nailed the original 60s Fantastic Four dynamic but set in a early 2000 settings.

@Kingdork - yeah Galactus was definitely studio interference. I think the director originally said he was going to be more accurate to the comics but they thought it’d look too silly in a movie with a giant rock guy…

The movies had their issues but also had enough positives aswell that made them enjoyable to some degree imo (especially in comparison to Fant4stic).

They best thing they got right was the dynamics , atleast in regards to Johnny & Ben

@Se4M4NSt4ine - They do shy away from the comics though. We are talking about movies, where Dr. Doom couldn't be a dictator ruler of a fictional European country nor Galactus a humanoid space-giant.

While those movies had a number of missteps, I always thought that they kind of got the tone right.

That made sense in my head, btw.

Those FF movies had the essential element of the Lee - Kirby FF. HEART

It's a semi-dysfunctional family that got exposed to cosmic rays.

Anything that veers from that - ain't the FF.

Dude these movies were my childhood.

Spiderman 2 and The Fantastic Four were probably my most repeated films when growing up.


I actually agree with some of the comments here and I don’t think those two Fantastic Four movies were bad.
They weren’t great but you could still feel each character was who they were playing. Yeah Dr. Doom needed more work but I actually think the suit was pretty cool and the actor quite menacing.

I really hope they bring them back for Secret Wars.
Specially Ioan Gruffud.

We need to see the council of Reeds ! Lol
