Superman star David Corenswet has arrived at Progressive Field to shoot the big action scene we saw being rehearsed yesterday, and he didn't come alone!

James Gunn's Superman is now well into week two of filming in Cleveland, Ohio, and these latest set photos suggest that a major super-powered showdown may be imminent.

Possible spoilers follow.

Yesterday, we saw a stunt being rehearsed at Progressive Field (doubling for LordTech Field) which teased a face-off between the Man of Steel (David Corenswet) and a powerful foe (most likely the unnamed villain we've seen in previous set photos), and these latest shots reveal that both Mr. Terrific (Edi Gathegi) and The Engineer (María Gabriela de Faría) will also be involved.

The photos aren't particularly revealing, but if you watch the video and wait until the very end, you'll see Superman and "Ultraman" attached to harnesses as they prepare to swoop towards the ground.

It looks like shooting are only just getting underway here, so we'll be sure to update if anything else finds its way online.

Superman also stars Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Edi Gathegi as Mr. Terrific, and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho.

Sara Sampaio is on board as Lex's assistant/lover Eve Teschmacher, Pruitt Taylor Vince and Neva Howell will play "Ma" and "Pa" Kent, and Milly Alcock's Supergirl is also rumored to make her debut ahead of her own Woman of Tomorrow movie, but that's yet to be confirmed.

We're still not sure exactly how these other superheroes will factor into the story, but Gunn has previously revealed that Superman's dual-life as both Clark Kent and the Man of Steel will be explored in the film, suggesting that these characters will be his "super friends." Whether they'll be part of an actual team or not remains to be seen.

“Overjoyed to be announcing the start of principal photography on SUPERMAN today, February 29, which just so happens to be – coincidentally and unplanned – Superman’s birthday,” Gunn captioned the first official photo earlier this year. “When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film ‘Superman: Legacy.’ By the time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was SUPERMAN,” he added. “Making our way to you July 2025.”

Man the scale of this movie seems like it will be quite impressive. Makes me curious how Gunn could handle a full on Justice League project.

@ModHaterSLADE - i mean, he has shown the ability to tell a story about individuals coming together to form a team with a strong family dynamic…

@DanFlashesShirt -GOTG is hell of a lot smaller than the JL, especially with all these heroes being in Superman alone...

Im guessing Gunn learned a lot from Marvel that he will use all of that knowledge for a better approach in making his universe. Everything looks great so far.

@FireandBlood - I actually like 2 myself. I hated it first watch but then I ate mushrooms and watched it again. I just got it more that time lol. But it's not as great as 1 and 3 nor TSS or Peacemaker IMO

@McMurdo - It’s better than Suicide Squad. All the Guardians movies are.

@vectorsigma - Sure he seems to have learned a LOT from Marvel. I guess that's why he, like all DC bosses, threw away the approach that worked so well for Marvel and decided to reinvent the wheel.

Now had he simply done a Phase One type of approach leading towards a Justice League we might have something here. Instead it's Dawn of Justice again.

@ObserverIO - The big difference people dont seen to understand, but it is okay because they have never seen a real DC faithful film, is that DC is different from Marvel. That has been the big mistake that DC made with Zack Snyder, trying to copy the same structure and approach Marvel was doing but in bad way.

If you read or even know something about DC Comics, you know clearly that the difference between DC and Marvel, is that a lot of main characters have "super friends", yes it also happens in Marvel comics, but is different, i could not explain it entirelly.

If you see Superman, all Gunn has done is bring to the screen the entire Superman world, we have never seen on screen, along with elements he clearly needs for his story to work.

But Superman like all the other DC characters have a bigger world than most Marvel characters, in the case of Superman, we have the world Clark Kent world, that includes Daily Planet staff, his parents, then you have Superman world, that includes all the super friends.

Then you have the villains, who include Lex Luthor, his team and a lot of wild cards.

So a lot of people who really dont know or care about Superman have been complaining. Because Gunn is making a faithful DC adaptation of the comics, it is plain stupid.

If he had done the same shit that Snyder did, of stuffing Flash, Batman, Aquaman, even Wonderwoman in the same film, then i would say, yes Gunn [frick]ed up.

But until now he has just add some B or C Listers, who clearly wont steal Superman spotlight, because most of them are C or B Listers and they clearly will fullfil a role.

@vectorsigma - also I don't at all dislike @fireandblood and I actually heavily respect his willingness to go at it and have a debate about something he is passionate about or feels otherwise inclined about. I don't see him as a bad egg at all. We need people of differing opinions here it makes it interesting in the talks backs.

No need to apologize though, all is fair here and you are right, good to have differing opinions. I even appreciate him not blocking me

And i wont consider myself that based but thanks for thinking that.

ObserverIO
ObserverIO - 7/12/2024, 2:16 PM
@AleSir19 - It's not that different really. They are both universes populated by many superheroes and in the comics those superheroes were introduced steadily, piece by piece.

Mr Terrific, Green Lantern, Hawkgirl/Hawkman, etc were all individual comic series, introduced one at a time, before teams such as the JSA or JLA were introduced.

Much like with Marvel, Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, Thor, etc were all introduced in their own comic series first and then came together in The Avengers.

The MCU just did it like the comics.

DC never ever has.

Not because DC is different, because in this case they're not. In the comics, DC actually did the 'Phase One' method before Marvel. They invented it.

Cool!!.

I’m sure the Superman & Ultraman fight will be fun but I’m more interested in Mr Terrific and The Engineer being there and assumedly being against each other..

Both characters have a genius level intellect in the comics so if Gunn sticks to that , I hope we get a fight that’s more about outsmarting each other and using their wits instead of just punchy-punchy which I’m sure the Supes one will be.

Plus , The Engineer has abilities while Terrific has his tech so he wouldn’t be able to take her on physically either.

I’m excited for this! I like the world/universe building. Potentially too much for one film but Gunn has delivered in the past so I think he’ll execute this well!

With all the wire stunts we have been seeing, I am wondering if the looseness of the suit might be where the wires need to attach?
McMurdo
McMurdo - 7/11/2024, 2:41 PM
@6of13 - good point. It's definitely made looser for purposes of shooting/comfort. Head on you can't even tell it's looser that skin tight so in post I have faith it's gonna look just as good as Black Panthers loosely goosey suit did. And Supes here doesn't have a gigantic ill fitting helmet to fix in post.

I always had a dream trilogy I wanted to see on screen for Superman. Where the first film had Metallo as the villain and Clark and Lois discover that Metallo was created by Project Cadmus with the intention of extracting Superman's DNA. The second film would be where Superman arrives at Project Cadmus and discovers Bizarro. Clark and Lois discover that Project Cadmus was working with Amanda Waller for the Suicide Squad project which would have a team of Supermen as fighters for the United States Government. Superman 3 would introduce Superboy as a minor antagonist turned good and the primary villain would be Metamorpho.
