Bucky has killed many people in cold blood. Would still be better than 99.9% of current people in Congress.

@Izaizaiza - Someone with Steve Rodgers' character would be a great representative. Unfortunately, in the real world, most of the good people either cannot achieve success or get burned out by the process. And we get left with what we get.

Really reminds me of this great classic George Carlin joke:

@Izaizaiza - Appreciate that. I find that I can do the same with politicians that I disagree with but I see them doing good things or standing up to convictions.

I don’t agree with AOC often, but she is also on the right side of this issue. My tax dollars shouldn’t be constantly funneled to foreign wars. In any country. And very few on either side of the aisle stand up to that.

@mountainman - Yeah man, as much an intellectual social commentator as a comedian. I don't quite agree with him on this that all is hopeless and voting is useless, but outside of those conclusions, I think he's spot on
mountainman
mountainman - 8/14/2024, 3:01 PM
@Izaizaiza - I have some anarchist or just not politically involved friends. Totally understand that perspective. It’s really tough to affect change.

I am involved myself (by a lot more than just voting) and I can tell you it beats you down sometimes.

One thing I always loved about Carlin is he didn’t play sides and was able to call out anyone for their BS.
Izaizaiza
Izaizaiza - 8/14/2024, 4:05 PM
@mountainman - Yeah, agreed about Carlin. How trying to affect political change can beat you down. I'm in my '50s now so I definitely get the sentiment. I work with a lot of young people, many more progressive than me, and I'm pretty progressive. Sometimes they'll complain about the presidential candidate, for example. I'll ask them who they voted for in the primary, and they'll say that they didn't vote in the primary... Which isn't surprising, as I think the number here was about 30% of voters voted in the primary. It seems a little defeatist to say that voting doesn't change anything, when The argument could be made that we haven't tried it yet
mountainman
mountainman - 8/14/2024, 5:27 PM
@Izaizaiza - In my state, about 3-4 million people vote for president. That means my vote counts as 1/3,500,000. Unless I have the ability to influence a lot of other people to vote my way, whatever I do won’t change the outcome.

But in the city I live in of 60,000, the last mayor won with 1700 votes. I can have A LOT more influence in that. Or attending city council meetings, school board meetings, county commission meetings, talking to local representatives, gathering signatures to get ballot initiatives to go to vote, etc.

Personally I’m very invested in local politics. Then state. And least of all national.

Every president in my lifetime has been terrible and I don’t anticipate that streak to end this year.

I am a much bigger fan of being the change you want to be in the world vs expecting daddy government to save you (because they definitely won’t). If more people didn’t wait for someone else to fix problems and actually put in the work, our world would be a much better place.
Izaizaiza
Izaizaiza - 8/14/2024, 6:06 PM
@mountainman - I agree 100% about the importance of local engagement. President obviously has enormous influence of what happens in the country, especially by what judges they appoint. Just got to make your vote and hope others choose to participate as well
mountainman
mountainman - 8/14/2024, 6:15 PM
@Izaizaiza - Another solution would just be to reduce the size and power of the federal government. It’s pretty obvious the largest government in human history hasn’t been representing its people well for a while now. Thinking some specific person or party is going to fix it seems quite insane to me.
Izaizaiza
Izaizaiza - 8/14/2024, 7:09 PM
@mountainman - Agreed. I vote for the Democrats generally, although I consider myself to be pretty noticeably to the left of them. I read a great description: The Democrats (at the national level) are the mob that you pay protection money to, so that the other mob doesn't burn your store to the ground. Neither one are good guys
mountainman
mountainman - 8/14/2024, 7:15 PM
@Izaizaiza - And I know some people that do the exact same thing for the R’s. I choose to vote for neither nationally (unless I actually had a good President, Senator or Representative to vote for which I don’t). We each get that choice.
Izaizaiza

Honestly , I like the idea where they are going with this…

A team of current or former soldiers & assassins , some of whom have been hired by someone who wants them gone ultimately end up forming a team that might give atleast some of them (Yelena and perhaps Bucky , John and Alexei) a renewed sense of purpose or redemption.

Anyway , seems good and I’m looking forward to it!!.

On a side note, Cinemark is doing all the hits from 1984 this week. Last night was The Terminator, tonight is Gremlins, the rest you'll have to look up. Also seeing Coraline remastered 3d and Alien Romulus tomorrow. The perks of being a day trader lol

As a concept it is very interesting with a lot of potential with Yelena and Bucky alone being good enough characters to carry it. If it turns out to be great, good but flawed or meh remains to be seen.

From everything I have read and seen still very intrigued and hopefull for at minimum a good 7/10 sort of film that is worth checking out with the possibility of being a great 9/10 cross between the first Avengers film and Winter Soldier.

I get the red flags some are seeing, Taskmaster is more than a little an unknown factor with folk having issues with both Ghost and Red Guardian in their prior films too so sure, it could turn out bad but then that could be said of almost anything and find dwelling too much on potential negatives in advance is a tad silly till we have seen more.
TheVisionary25
TheVisionary25 - 8/14/2024, 11:52 AM
@Apophis71 - Taskmaster is very much a blank slate considering she was a blank slate but I thought Ghost was alright and I liked Red Guardian in their prior appearances.

You are right that dwelling on potential negatives is useless right now since it all depends on context

I wonder if the rumors of us seeing Harrison Ford’s President Ross , Laurence Fishburne’s Bill Foster and Rachel Weisz’s Melina are true?.

I can see them trying not to reveal all of them since if we find out that Ross is in this then it could potentially ruin his fate in Cap 4 while the other 2 could be a nice surprised saved for the film itself.
RedFury
RedFury - 8/14/2024, 12:16 PM
@TheVisionary25 - I never really considered this, but I'm liking the idea of them showing up. Especially Ross if he does in fact make it out of Brave New World as the Red Hulk. It would at least give someone for Sentry to go toe to toe with.
