CAPTAIN AMERICA: NEW WORLD ORDER Star Anthony Mackie Weighs In On Whether Steve Rogers Is Dead Or Alive CAPTAIN AMERICA: NEW WORLD ORDER Star Anthony Mackie Weighs In On Whether Steve Rogers Is Dead Or Alive

We still don't know what became of Steve Rogers after he returned to the present as an old man in Avengers: Endgame, but Anthony Mackie appears to have confirmed the former Captain America is alive...

Marvel Studios has handled Chris Evans' MCU departure in a very odd fashion. While the way Steve Rogers' story ended in Avengers: Endgame felt right, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier - a story about Captain America - made no mention of the hero other than the fact he's "gone."

The world appears to believe Steve is dead, something that was evident from the Statue of Liberty's transformation in Spider-Man: No Way Home

We'd like to think Captain America: New World Order will more directly address what's going on with the former Captain America, but there's no guarantee based on recent experience. However, Evans' successor, Anthony Mackie, appeared to strongly hint that Steve is indeed alive and well during a recent interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live

When Kimmel pointed out we never saw Cap die, the actor responded: "That means he ain’t dead! Why are you trying to kill Steve? That’s age discrimination...[there] ain't nothing wrong with an old Cap!"

After joking around with the host, Mackie was asked point blank if Steve is alive. "Yeah! I think so! I didn’t see him die! I don’t know, I saw Chris two weeks ago, and he looked pretty good." We're not going to take this as confirmation, but it certainly seems to bold well for a possible return.

If we had to hazard a guess, Marvel Studios is holding off on enlisting Evans for an MCU return until Avengers: The Kang Dynasty or Avengers: Secret Wars, though we remain anxious to learn what became of Earth-616's Steve after his trip back in time to reunite with Peggy Carter.

Captain America: New World Order is set to be released in theaters on May 3, 2024.

We saw Cap regain his youth by the Serum being re-injected in the comics, so there's a good chance for OG Steve in Secret Wars.

How I think we'll see our OG Avengers in Secret Wars:

1. Iron Man: Alternate Version, probably evil to drive the point home that our Tony is gone for good.

2. Captain America: Takes over SWORD as the boss from the shadows and reinjects the serum once Sam/Bucky are in mortal danger.

3. Thor: returns with Love once the Universe is in danger, he gets to meet Loki and ultimately sacrifices himself for Love/Loki knowing she's in safe hands with his brother. (Bonus points for: "I'm not your brother." "Loki, in every universe and every reality you ARE my brother!")

4. Hulk: Returns from Sakaar with his son to help keep the universe together.

5. Hawkeye: He becomes Kate Bishop's voice-in-her-ear to aid her through the conflict. Sort of like Oracle.

6. Black Widow: The alternate Iron Man's loyal servant and right hand woman. She is redeemed by meeting Bruce and Clint (who in her world are dead) and helps take down evil Iron Man.

7. Nick Fury: Appears with an Army of Skrulls to help in the war.

8. Scarlet Witch: Has gone into hiding since the events of MoM.

9. Quicksilver: Alternate version where Scarlet Witch died in his place in AoU joins evil IM and BW.

10. Vision: once White Vision regains his personality he makes his way on a "VisionQuest" to find Wanda, the love of his life, and makes it his quest to rescue and redeem her. In the Secret Wars they'll exchange places with their children on this plane of existence.

@Blergh - I really like a lot of these ideas and can see some of them actually happening (especially the Nick Fury one).

I wouldn't mind just old cap rocking up and still having all the moves regardless of his age.

@Blergh - you know, you bring up an interesting thought: the serum in the MCU doesn’t affect aging. Since Steve decided to stay with Peggy on the 40s after returning all the stones. Either that or he some how had the serum removed from his blood.

@Blergh - Some of these are good ideas.

We also seem to keep forgetting that any aged character can be made young and any young character can be aged up now since Banner made the Time Machine.

Before Tony’s time GPS Banner made Lang get younger and older by moving time through him, not him through time.
So he can easily move time through Cap now and make him young again.

@Blergh - At the end of Captain America: New World Order, after the final battle, Sam wakes up in a hospital bed and old Steve is sitting in front of the bed. They are in Sword's moonbase. So yeah, Steve was over the moon.

They say he's dead in She-Hulk.

But they also say he [frick]ed a showgirl during the period he claimed to be saving himself for Peggy, so...

Yeah anyone who really knows the comics, and Marvel seems to be staying close to the source material in a lot of cases, then you know OG Cap is certainly still alive and may even return to take the mantle back.

I think it kinda sucks Hulk accidentally invented reverse-aging in Endgame. Just throw Steve in that time machine again and he's a young guy (or a baby) again.

Marvel is holding that in their back pocket until they eventually bring Steve Rogers back one day. Whether it will be Chris Evans or not, that is the question.

I really hope they do bring him back one day. Evans is and always will be my favorite part of the MCU. His Captain America is a hard character to match in the scope of everything. The man gave up any form of a normal life to serve the idea of peace. It's a captivating character I really hope to see more of.
