We may have some rumoured early details about Deadpool & Wolverine's post-credits scene, including the fact an Avengers star declined the chance to reprise their role in the stinger. Check it out...

Deadpool & Wolverine is now less than a month away from hitting theaters and, with press screenings surely set to begin imminently, there's a good chance we'll soon start seeing spoilers do the rounds online.

Marvel Studios can counter that by taking some cues from Spider-Man: No Way Home; for that 2021 movie, junket press were only shown the first 37 minutes of the movie, with full screenings for review purposes taking place only the day before it was released theatrically.

Regardless, we now have news on Deadpool & Wolverine's post-credits scene and what we won't see.

It started with Devin Faraci sharing a wild claim that Robert Downey Jr. has been considered for the MCU's Doctor Doom. That supposedly didn't pan out, though Daniel Richtman would later chime in to say, "They also wanted [Downey Jr.] to make a cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine, particularly in a post-credits scene, but it didn't work out."

He'd later add, "It was supposed to serve as both a buildup for [Avengers:] Secret Wars and as a payoff to another scene that is still in the film, which I won't spoil."

Cryptic HD QUALITY was quick to weigh in by revealing, "Basically, the [post-credits scene] isn't MIND BLOWING. Doesn't set anything up. This film is contained in itself and doesn't really need rewatches to understand anything as Shawn [Levy] himself has stated. It will definitely have things built off it in the future though."

In other words, if there had once been plans for a huge cameo to set the stage for what comes next, that's no longer necessarily the case. It's good to know we should temper expectations, as anything more than just a fun stinger will now be a pleasant surprise.

For what it's worth, The Cosmic Circus' Alex Perez has also confirmed these reports about Downey Jr. being eyed for a surprise Deadpool & Wolverine role.

It would have been awesome to see, though we'd imagine the actor decided he'd be best served returning in an upcoming Avengers movie.

Shawn Levy directs Deadpool & Wolverine, which stars Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, and Matthew Macfadyen. The movie is written by Ryan Reynolds & Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick & Zeb Wells & Shawn Levy.

Kevin Feige, Reynolds, Levy and Lauren Shuler Donner produce with Louis D’Esposito, Wendy Jacobson, Mary McLaglen, Josh McLaglen, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, George Dewey, Simon Kinberg and Jonathon Komack Martin serving as executive producers.

Deadpool & Wolverine arrives in theaters on July 26.

Deadpool & Wolverine has 2 post credit scenes.
One funny and one with repercussions.

@YouFlopped @MarvelZombie616 - so pretty much like any Marvel movie. It's as a good an assumption as saying a character was at one point maybe gonna appear (but let's be honest, these "scoops" aren't news)

@bkmeijer1 - “(but let's be honest, these "scoops" aren't news)”, absolutely not. These scoops are more baseless predictions built off of 10 plus years of the Marvel formula.

@WruceBayne - yeah. Most of the scoops that I read about are just well-made guesses anyone with some general knowledge of industry and entertainment can make

@WruceBayne @bkmeijer1 - I know we're "fans", but there can't be breaking news everyday about everyting. I hold hope that there's a reality where everyone's clicking constantly and there is though 😏

bkmeijer1 - 7/1/2024, 8:10 AM
@The1st - I try to stay away from rumours as much as possible, but when I click anyway it's often just a scoop that might as well be a guess (which often is my comment about).

I don't need breaking news all day though. I'm fine with news being a day old, as long as there is something to discuss in the comments

@bkmeijer1 - Oh I know, I know why I'm here too. It's just amazing how much you can glean about a person's, well, persona from what they think are seemingly anonymous comments. I feel like the Mad Max meme is required most of the time oddly enough, but I enjoy the discussions. When they're civil anyway. Lot of would be Feyd Rauthas on here that are essentially giga sigma beta chads it feels like at times.

But didn't MyTimeToShine or CanWeGetSomeToast say the post credits scene is mind blowing? (I know someone did, just can't remember who).

Is this Cryptic person one of your new crutches? 3 posts in about an hour or so, that's a hell of a run either way.

@DravenCorvis -

Cryptic has been around a while and is generally a pretty reliable source as far as scoopers go. When it comes to MCU stuff they have a solid track record of getting things right and don't tend to just throw things out there.

The MarvelStudiosSpoilers subreddit tracks most of this stuff and has them at a 91% accuracy rate.

The ones passing themselves off as leakers, sites tracking their accuracy have them rated at less than 50% and a majority of that is just them remarking on release dates for trailers or educated guesses.

A Robert Downey Junior cameo would've been cringe as a post credits scene at the end of a Deadpool movie. No need to throw all your eggs in one basket Marvel.

But this reeks of desperation since the MCU has been falling off so hard since Iron Man died in Endgame.

So another inconsequential film with wild rumors while people are clearly telling you to tamper expectations.

so far none of the “cameos” seem as cool as The Marvels, NWH, or MoM 🥱💤

"so far none of the “cameos” seem as cool as The Marvels, NWH, or MoM"

From the start the whole thing has effectively telegraphed itself as trying to rip-off the nostalgia appeal from Spider-man: No Way Home with a presumed knock-off Endgame final battle at the end so they can try and leech off other films that pre-dated the MCU.

Personally I find that stuff uninteresting, the notion of Deadpool revisiting sets from the prior movies is also just recycled- like when Endgame revisited Thor 2 or 2012.

@YouFlopped - ok, I'll give you no way home and maybe MoM, but the marvels? That just had beast. If the rumors are true, Wesley snipes coming back as blade alone blows that out of the water.

This sounds so horrifically bad. The only character they haven't completely ruined yet, they gave a somewhat satisfying death to and now the big stinger to get people invested was going to be that he's back in some form? Like we all know where it's going, they'll bring them all back because it'll be the 20th Anniversary by the time Avengers 6/7 eventually end up being released, but it's just so boring to try and be leeching nostalgia off a failed franchise and characters we know they'll ruin.

Desperate disney and marvel.

Devin Faraci? I thought he was exiled from the Internet for being a creep. If you know, you know.

The build-up to the release of this movie has been fascinating because all of the 'scoop' accounts have ratcheted up their endless speculation about this and that making stuff up out of whole cloth and slapping on a 'rumour' tag for faux-legitimacy.

What's even more fascinating is when one of their made-up rumours gets Mandela Effect'd into being a definitely really-real thing e.g. Mephisto was definitely going to be in WandaVision, you guys.

It looks good, it’ll probably be good, but I have no idea why people think this is going to be the second coming of the Avengers.
SuperiorHeckler
SuperiorHeckler - 6/30/2024, 8:14 AM
Personally, I'm anticipating this to be a smash-hit. But, I'm also anticipating that its success will be spun into it being proclaimed the "savior" of the MCU which can't be further from the truth. It will be the movies that come afterward that will tell us if Disney/MARVEL has come-out of their tailspin or not. 🤨

ObserverIO

@DocSpock - If Deadpool & Canucklehead is the big MCU comeback then all next year's movies really need to do is sustain that quality until we get to TFF and A5.

They just have to not be Love and Thunder and we're good.
DocSpock
DocSpock - 6/30/2024, 4:44 PM
@ObserverIO -

I know. We have to hope that after the lousy F&WS and the disastrous The Marvels, someone grabbed the execs by the nuts and screamed, the one job of a movie is to ENTERTAIN the audience.

If the movies are great, most people will look past all the whining messaging. Quality should always be job one. If I want a socialist engineering class, I'll enroll at Columbia.

"this character was planned to appear but not anymore, so there is no way to confirm validity and so I'm not wrong."

That's how this feels. Think that at any point any character was considered for a scene they wanted to tie into the movie but didn't. That's not a scoop, just a well-placed assumption.

@bkmeijer1 - I've got two scoops of ice cream for you, just for you and the readers of cbm. These are actual genuine rumors.

Here's the first one:

Lucasfilm's Howard The Duck will make an appearance. They will use the one of the original puppets/costumes on loan from Lucas.

He will be accompanied by Lea Thompson returning as Howards BFF/GF Beverly Switzler.

That's your first scoop. Second scoop incoming.
