THUNDERBOLTS* Star David Harbour Confirms He's Wrapped On The Movie With Red Guardian Propaganda Poster

Thunderbolts* star David Harbour has confirmed that he's wrapped shooting on the Marvel Studios movie, sharing what appears to be a vintage Red Guardian poster from his time as a superhero in the Cold War.

Black Widow star David Harbour has taken to Instagram to confirm he's wrapped shooting on Marvel Studios' Thunderbolts*. The actor has also shared what appears to be a vintage propaganda poster featuring Red Guardian at the height of the Cold War.

If we had to hazard a guess, this reminder of his past is something Alexei Shostakov keeps on his wall wherever the Thunderbolts are holed up.

As best as we can tell, the Russian writing translates to, "We Are Indomitable As The Red Guardian."

Marvel Studios is heading to Comic-Con next month and we're expecting a new look at Thunderbolts* to be released during what's sure to be a memorable Hall H panel. There's a good chance it will be released online and, if we're really lucky, we may even get to see The Sentry.

"It’s so interesting to think about where [Red Guardian] ends up at the end of 'Black Widow' after his story is complete and what happens to him after he’s out of prison," Harbour said in a recent interview. "Where does he go? To reconnect with Florence [Pugh] is going to be great as well."

"And also, I would like to see, because he is an idiot and he is an egomaniac - all that stuff, but he does have this fire in him, and I think he could rise to certain occasions if given the chance."

"I’d like to see him be a little bit more of a badass as well," the actor continued. "I’d like to see those fighting skills, which we see a little bit with Taskmaster, but, as messed up as he is, he does have the super serum, and he knows this Russian Sambo technique, and I think we could see a lot more color in that department in terms of his range as a fighter."

"And I’d like to see where he can go now that he’s out of prison and he’s got more hope for his life, like who he might become. There’s a lot of potential and a lot of opportunity."

Confirmed cast members for Thunderbolts* include Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Florence Pugh as Yelena Boleva, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Wyatt Russell as U.S. Agent, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, and Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster.

Recently, Geraldine Viswanathan replaced Ayo Edebiri in an undisclosed role, while Lewis Pullman has taken over as The Sentry following Steve Yeun's shock departure from the movie. Both he and Edebiri are said to have left due to scheduling issues.

Written by Eric Pearson, Lee Sung Jin, and Joanna Calo, and directed by Jake Schreier, Thunderbolts* is currently set to be released in theaters on May 5, 2025.

@mountainman - I disagree. To me both him a Yelena were great interesting characters. And had humour to them as well. I could see them both in a series togeather. Explore the Russia side of that universe as well.

@cubrn - The older and out of shape part doesn’t bother me, it’s that they turned him into a joke of a character.

Let’s just be realistic here. A former soviet super soldier who was betrayed by his country and sat in prison for decades would be more likely to be gruff and revenge-driven than stupid and goofy.

It just gets old when the MCU seems to want to turn so many characters into jokes. He certainly didn’t bring down the movie as much as that “Taskmaster” we got or the ridiculous flying fortress at the end, but he was certainly one of the reasons why the movie was just ok.

@IAmAHoot - i doubt it, he has a lot of character on screen. he's a large guy that has aspirations to be captain america... and not like douchebag John Walker, he could actually do a good interpretation of it.

While it’s very likely he makes a heroic sacrifice in this possibly to save Yelena , I hope that doesn’t happen because I feel the character still has potential…

I liked the character because while he can be this boisterous braggart who seeks fame & glory , it was shown that deep down he is ultimately a good man who does care about his “family” and Can be a true hero hence it makes sense for him to go out in a noble fashion in this but i think that would cut the chance for him to interact with other characters such as Sam which could be fun!!.

@SonOfAGif - If Steve didn’t get frozen and stopped serving his original purpose as pro-war propaganda, there is no doubt in my mind they would have turned on him too.

The whole idea of the government creating super soldiers is that they are all expendable (like any soldier really). They are tools to accomplish their mission and then they can be discarded.

Lots of real world vets can likely relate to that story.

everyone complaining about Guardian being fat and a joke said the same about Thor and then Thor trimmed up... and hopefully by his next movie he has done a full circle on his character arc. people just don't seem to get the need for a character arc... to show a weakness and a struggle and a triumphant resolution. to 'become the hero' instead of just being a super jock 2/47.

@JonC - Yes, I hope he goes back to the non-goofball he was at the beginning of Black Widow. I'm tired of seeing these serious characters that end up being the but of jokes (like Drax). Not every action film needs someone everyone can laugh at and feel superior to.

1) If I understand things Ghost, Yelena, Taskmaster, and Walker are on a mission for Val. It goes bad and the other two are brought in to help. OK answer me this:

a)How does Val know anything about Ghost ? There are five people who know about her and none of them would be saying anything about her. I can't just see her drafted.

b) How does Val know anything about Taskmaster ? Well records recovered fron the floating base would do it if you assume they weren't automatically destroyed when they hit the abandom base button. I have trouble with that. Paper records ? Too silly. The best I can come up with is the interrogation of a Black Widow. Even then finding her would be well nigh to impossible.

2) If some one has to die kill off US Agent. Can't stand him. :)
