Earlier this year, DC fans were upset to learn that the critically panned Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League video game would likely be Kevin Conroy's final performance as Batman following his death in 2022. 

Why was Conroy's role in the game so controversial? Well, it portrayed the Dark Knight in a villainous light and featured what appeared to be his brutal demise at the hands of one Harley Quinn. 

We'd later learn that Conroy recorded dialogue for Warner Bros. Animation's Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths trilogy and that can finally be heard in the third instalment which went on sale earlier today. It comes in a sequence which sees us visit various alternate realities - including Justice League Unlimited - with Batman: The Animated Series among them.

As the world ends, the Dark Knight faces his greatest foe (Mark Hamill's Joker) one final time. And, the legendary actor gets to go out with one hell of a final line...  

"I care Joker...about Gotham. About justice. And, if it has to end, at least I go out like this...being Batman!"

There's been a surprising amount of speculation online about both Conroy and Hamill's performance being A.I.-generated, though we'd have to imagine that's not really the case. If it is, then Warner Bros. has a lot to answer for.

Justice League Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part Three is produced by Jim Krieg and Kimberly S. Moreau and executive produced by Butch Lukic, Sam Register, and Michael Uslan. The film is directed by Jeff Wamester from a script by Jim Krieg. Casting and voice direction is by Wes Gleason. 

The movie debuted on Digital platforms today, July 16, before arriving on 4K UHD in limited edition SteelBook packaging and Blu-ray on July 23.

Hamill's performance does sound a little off, but he might have recorded it after Conroy's passing. If that's the case, it had to have been a hard recording session.

@HammerLegFoot - it’s one of the very few times were I agree with IGN and their reviews. It’s mostly bland with and focuses too much characters that don’t have any lead up. And for a Crisis event, it feels very anticlimactic due to the Tomorrowverse still being new with just a hand full of movies. If they want this to be a Crisis event with more emotional weight that ties into the other DC content, they should’ve used Bruce Tim’s universe: very well know and established and could’ve been a good send off.

@vectorsigma - 1st part had a decent set up and then the third act just commits to a love story and the film just ends rather Anti-climatically. Part 2 has some of the worst story structure I've seen in a film. We get 2 flashback origin stories and we also pick up where the last film left off like 40 minutes into the movie and it continues to cut between these 3 stories and then they have this artificial conflict with the Bat family happening during a dragged out action scene that's about as engaging as a Naruto filler episode. Just watch the whole thing when it comes out if you're that interested. I stuck with it because I was curious how they'd do the Anti-Monitor and if that was meant to be him in part 2, I'd say he looks to be as disappointing as Galactus was in Rise of the Silver Surfer.

@vectorsigma - I started watching the first one on Max, and yeah, it's not great. The animation is crummy, and the dialogue all has that weird pacing that new DC Animated movies have, where full seconds pass between lines. It is . . . not compelling.

I fell asleep in the middle of the second part. The animation is solid, but the story drags.

If this was the last thing Conroy says as Batman, I’m happy.

I'm my personal opinion Kevin Conroy's dialogue here his final words in that world highly encapsulated Batman and its definitive, very fitting that for Kevin county's final words as Batman.

Hopefully this doesn't come across as rude or anything but Joker sounded nothing like Mark Hamill in that clip,

Kevin Conroy's delivery as Batman was perfect though. Can't help but wonder if he knew that would be the last time he'd voice the character. Adds a lot of additional weight to it if that's the case, but what a badass line to go out on. THE Batman.

So Joker sneaks up on him from behind while Batman poses for no reason other than fan service and he then tries to surprise attack him and then says he's flattered that Batman wants to spend his last moments with him during the end of the world? The animation production is clearly one film stretched out to 3 but it's the damn writers fault why people aren't into this. Trying to finish this trilogy has been almost as painful as those Godzilla anime movies.

That’s not Hamill. It can’t be.

Regardless, I was 5 years old when BTAS premiered on a Sunday night at 8PM on Fox and begged my mom to stay up and watch it. I’m now 37 and a Bat fan all my life.

For that 1 minute of this scene, I remembered vividly being 5 again. This was absolutely awesome, and a great send off for Kevin.

Hmmm...the writing sounds a lot like ChatGPT wrote it to be honest. Hamill sounds like he phoned in his performance. As a send off to Conroy though, this is perfect. RIP

That cant be Mark Hamill. The animation and art is really nice. but it reminds me of those old Cartoon Network promos. That line was perfect for being Kevin's last line as Batman. He still sounded perfect.

Doesn't sound like Hamil.

And the animation style is not the same here as the original, this art lazily has black outlines around all of the characters, whereas the original show used a darker shade of whatever color they were outlining for the outline of each part of the character (for instance, a white flesh colored face has a brownish outline, the gray suit had a charcoal outline, if someone wore blue their outline was navy, etc).

See if anyone else can tell what I mean:

It seems that most cartoons just do a black outline now. Not sure why.

Anyway, the Crisis series has been utterly terrible in everything from writing to concept to character choices. Do not waste your money on this like I did.

Also the original show was done on all black boards instead of the usual white, to give it a fuller darker feel.

These movies are ass but man did they knock it out of the park here.

It started with those blimps in the sky, and it ends with it. And that dialogue...it's almost as if Kevin knew this was his goodbye. It does not get more perfect than this. And when you think about how that shitty Rocksteady game could have been Kevin's legacy, it makes this feel like a true blessing. May the Batman finally rest 🖤
